wine buffs, help needed..

Doh!

Shit:eek: It's bad enough that i mistook this thread for a sobbing and knobbing sort but now I'm in a deep puddle of new world vinegar:mad:

I'd go for a Chilean Merlot or Cab Sov and a class Chablis for the girls or at the least a good new world chard;)

Do you need any gushers at the weddding?;)

ETA nowt wrong with swapping frocks mind.

lots of ideas, still stumped as to what wine to look for :D
Wine merchant #1 - ask for recommendations and get a price. Wine merchant #2 - tell 'em what you've been offered and ask if they can do better. Go back to wine merchant #1 and see if they can do any better. Rinse and repeat until you're happy that you've made the best possible choice and got the best possible price.

mr fannyman recommended the wines that I suggested in my sensible PM

apart from the white, cos I couldn't give a toss how crap that is! FANNY RED FOR ME PLEASE ROLLEM!

;) You see not just a pretty face for a kiwi to sit on.

**I really am running for my coat:D

Rollem, I could ask a mate of mine who used to be a director at Vinopolis and knows a thing or two about wine?

Say so if you do.

There's no way on earth that you're going to be able to drink the wine at their wedding now, without wondering to yourself if it tastes like fanny.

freidaweed has single-handedly ruined the whole day! :( :(

we used majestic for our wedding, can't remember the white and red we had, but the sparkling wine was Lindauer which went down very well:cool:

need some advice with regards to a half decent white and red wine that we can serve at our wedding

we need to get a red and a white which are pretty versatile as we are serving a buffet where people can choose from fish, beef, gammon or vegetarian dish so they need to be able to go with whatever is chosen.

we dont want to spend a fortune, so can anyone give us ideas on what types of wine we should be looking for?

If it's less than £10 a bottle then you're better off looking for a new world wine, Merlot from Chile is probably best as someone mentioned. I dunno about white.

We got a couple of mixed cases from Oddbins for our wedding - every wine was lovely. Good idea is to look at the strength of the wine - since a lot of wine (esp. red) is pretty robust these days (13%+) you don't want everyone absolutley munted right away so maybe look for something a bit lighter for earlier on (10-12% mark)

this thread has to be one of my more successfull

:hmm:

think i have an idea for reds now, and white i reckon i can cope with choosing

with regards to costs, will it prove cheaper to go to somewhere like oddbins et al, than heading to the local supermarket?

The supermarkets are often selling the stuff cheaper than a wholesaler can offer because of the sheer volume and an iron grip over the producers. :(

You should be able to negotiate a better discount from a proper retailer though. Pit them against each other - you won't get the best price if they know you've already decided to buy from them. Play some ping pong with at least 2 possible suppliers and be completely honest about what you're doing - then they know the only way to get the business is to offer the best deal. :)

Then check whether T*sco can do it so much cheaper it's worth putting money in their scumbag coffers. :o

:(

Good advice though - ignore me. Plenty other stuff to worry about.

cheers for the info though, actually very helpful :)

you're alright tanky, i wil drag relahni along, i can choose and he can carry (and pay)

oh well, is all defunct now as the pub has now said that we cant provide our own wine (the mar manager's bossses have just completely freaked at her for suggesting we could apparently :D)

so its the cheapest white and red on the menu then  easy choices :D

Will they not let you pay a bit of corkage for each bottle you bring?
