Windows7 on discount pre-order - get in quick!

So long as you turn off the fluffy eye candy stuff, it should run fine on the X31 - people have had it running on netbooks with no problem.

I tried the RC on it when I had to do a clean install (virus attack) in January and it worked (except the wifi which would have needed a driver)... but I'm reluctant to spend any more money on it when it's fine running XP, and at some point soon the processor is going to start feeling really slow.

Basically I'm talking myself into buying a new computer :)

I'll try the RC on another compooter later. Are there drivers specific to Win7 or is there cross-compatibility with XP/Vista driver base?

Reinstalling from scratch seems to be an EU only requirement rather than some muppetry by Microsoft. Good to see that that they've managed to work out how to write updaters.

I'll be waiting for the .torrent version which appears (as always...) will be the better version.

No, it is complete cuntishness from Microsoft. Pissed off that somebody (the EU) finally stood up to them, MS decided to make installing this hot new OS as difficult as possible for all Europeans.

Thanks, MS

To be fair, by the time I had read why there needed to be a re-install by the user I still thought Microsoft were muppets. However like Microsoft spending a bit of time to write an uninstaller, I couldn't be arsed to change that bit of the reply in time to hit "post".

or maybe as per usual it's the morons in the anti trust hearings in the EU who have high minded prinicpals which actually impact on the users ability to run the software.

If anyone can remeber this far back this was the problem with XP as well due to EU stating there must be competition (for fucks sake) in the media player market, thus crippling XP for a while in it's ability to play tunes...

When will the EU work with real life examples of real life users rather than the etherial and utterly pointless inferring in companies business models...

FFS there's a reason most people never bother with installing another browser and it's got nothing to do with M$ business practices at all, it's called user lazyness.

Most web traffic is on IE because suprise suprise the biggest supported enterprise systems globally are also on M$ server and the majority of web use comes from corporate networks.

The alternative suggestion which came out of the EU's recent bullshit excuse for a hearing was that they should offer a splash screen allowing users to pick which broswers were installed on first start up, not of course realising that on last count and to ensure fairness there were some 3000 differnet browsers out there...

all this has done is again fucked things for the people it's supposed to represent the EU citizens.

It's not like it's not possilbe to go into a search engine and find a new browser once using the system install by default is it... or are the EU about to ban google from pushing Chrome on it's home page now because of anti trust issues...

so no not M$ who are merely a company with proprioatory system which has a proprioitory browser.

I note JARHEAD fails to mention that apple have never been asked to remove safari from OSX... why the lack of intrest there EU in the intrests of fairness shouldn't everyone in the EU be fucked over by your mental rulings not just those of us on the more common O/S

So not the fault of M$ really the fault of a group of remote twats who make our MP's expense fiddlers look like ammatures and have no connection to the average european but lot's of connections with corporate EU and US companies...

next time JARHEAD at least try and cover up your naked ignorance and utter tiedious M$ bashing bollocks by just not post on M$ releated threads it's fucking dull to hear you bang on and on... and you cunt it makes me feel like i'm defending a pack of cunts, cheers, tosser...

Whoosh! Windows 7 is now £80!
The price of pre-ordering Windows 7 has shot up to £80 at the majority of retailers, with the promotional £50 copies already in short supply.

In order to ensure Windows 7 got off to a better start than Vista, Microsoft slashed the cost of Home Premium and Professional by a third on promotional copies which were sold on a "first come, first served basis while stocks last".

The promotion ensured Windows 7 shot to the top of Amazon's charts when it was released yesterday, with the online retailer claiming that "sales in the first eight hours outstripped those of Windows Vista's entire 17 week pre-order period," according to the BBC.

It was a similar story at other retailers including Play and Tesco. However, it appears Microsoft's generosity only stretches so far, with promotion copies already in short supply within a day of launch.

Ordering from Amazon, Play or Tesco now will cost you £80 for Home Premium and £100 for Home Professional.

There's still no sight of Ultimate Edition on the horizon.

I usually don't bother with Garfs raft of incomprehensible insults, but wasn't there his posting faq with stuff about mucking around with a user's user-name being a bit of no no. We still following that one...? Ditto the rule about random insults...? Is there a reason Garf doesn't seem to have to follow it...? Not sure about other's but Garf's random stringing of words and insults is getting a bit tedious...

Its like having some kind of Uncle in the corner at Xmas. You know, the swearing, farting one that you only invite over because he's stinking rich and you might get mentioned in the will.

"Arse...! Feck...! Arse...! Computers...! Windows..! Apple...! Feck...! Feck..!"
"Yes Garf, dear...? How are you...? How are you feeling...? Do you want some Brandy...? B-R-A-N-D-Y. You like that, yes...? We're talking about computers. C-O-M-P-U-T-E-R-S. You didn't have them in your day did you...? They're like big calculators... W-I-N-D-O-W-S...? Did you use that...? Well done...! Fascinating. Here's your Brandy..."

If I was a commissioner of programs at BBC Radio I'd give you two a show, you've really made me laugh today and God knows I really needed one. Thanks :)

Microsoft announced they are canning Windows 7 E and everyone will game the same version as rest of the world.

Everyone that pre-ordered will still get the full edition. Feel a bit conned really as now I feel they could have offered up cheap upgrade alternative as well, which would have saved alot of people a few headaches woth doing a full fresh install.

I'd rather have the full version, if your moving over to a new OS, I think its worth taking the time, can make solving problems later much easier. If you need to do a fresh install then it makes life easier as well.

I think its the best OS yet, I started this machine on the beta, on RC1 at the moment and ordered it from Curries for £45 when it became available for preorder.

First MS OS I've paid for, but for £45 its not a huge amount you to make sure you've a legit copy, so you don't have to worry about getting updates.

I'm looking forward to getting this up and running. If the reviews are anything to go by, it's certainly a massive step up from Vista's ghastly launch, and it looks to be a well solid and attractive OS.

Apparently free for testers now? Does anybody know if this includes RC1 users?

It'll be like all the other gold partnerships and above with access to the software VLK images I'd imagine so free to testers as in you've paid the Gold or above cert price and so this is added to that.... as opposed to you're 'testing' it for M$.

Beisdes it's been cracked there'll be free versions around... there's even an OME hacked VM with the ability to preprogram the Brand into the header screns and Pages for all major manufactorers out there if you can run it... ;)

This allows you to build a disk image and then of course install it to that machine... v useful...

how could it not though in effect it's a vista service pack upgrade nothing more

the GUI is just a retweaked Server 2008 GUI

It fuckign wants to be solid as well after the failures of vista...
