Windows 10 announced

Project Spartan, or Edge or whatever meme they're re-using this time? MS have sorted out a lot of their old screwups over the last few years but they really aren't good at GUPIDs (Globally Unique Product IDs)

(((Microsoft's bandwidth bill)))

I fired it onto my 8.1 laptop this morning - totally painless and straightforward. I hadn't reserved it on that machine, it just showed up in Windows Update.

The update can use peer to peer distribution and they have the Akamai network which was designed for this soft of distribution. Think massive local caching at regional network centers.

Here's some shortcuts for W10:

Windows Key + A – this activates the Action Center

Windows Key + C – this activates Cortana with voice

Windows Key + D – this shows you a desktop view of your machine by minimizing applications

Control + Shift + M – this restores your minimized applications to normal size

Windows Key + I – this will open up your Windows 10 settings pane

Windows Key + K – use this shortcut to enable wireless streaming to displays and audio devices

Windows Key + L – locks your machine

Windows Key + S – this opens up Cortana

Windows Key + V – cycle through notifications

Windows Key + plus – zoom in on your screen

Windows Key + minus – and zoom right back out

Windows Key + Ctrl + (left or right arrow) – scroll through your virtual desktops, in either direction

Windows Key + Control + D – this creates a new virtual desktop

Windows Key + Ctrl + F4 – this closes a virtual desktop

Windows Key + Tab – quickly view all of your active desktops

Windows Key + Left — this snaps the active window to the left

Windows Key + Right — this snaps active window to the right

Windows Key + Up — this snap the active window to the top

Windows Key + Down — this snap the active window to the bottom

Windows Key + , – this will hide your apps and give you a clean glance at your desktop

If I change my MB after installing this will I have to buy it?

Or can I just install 7 again and be given the same offer? Will my windows 7 key work on a fresh install of 10?

I had a play around with the techincal preview a couple of months ago. Colour me underwhelmed.

Will be sticking with 7 for the time being.

Bloody hell.
They're not installing it because of my obsolete graphics card - I'd better remove it ... I only fitted it for the analogue output..

I was going to treat myself, but the graphics on my I3 are OK for what I want to do ...

a quick poke about, and its like win8 never happened. Shall remember to take the piss out of a MS mate in Dublin who assured me its great when you get used to it.

does it actually say that? Done one which went ok, touchscreen laptop (which would be more useful) says update not available yet

The TV has blown up now in any case. :p
The most challenging thing I do is Second Life - not sure that's worth 25 quid for a graphics card ...:hmm:

great so far, everything seems to be running a bit faster although i think thats cause some things havent run on startup as they used to do. im sure something will cock up at some point ive been reading some complaints about drivers? but so far so good very pleased with it

Arse.
I extracted my ageing spider hotel from the depths of my alcove and extracted the obsolete graphics card, plugged everything back in, but not a sausage from the onboard DVI socket - or the HDMI come to that - I may try a VGA later ...

I may be forced to buy a graphics card.

Thankfully I haven't trashed my computer.
