I feel bad for Cilic
The original crying game
Me too. I was really hoping he'd be able to put up a noble fight but this is hard to enjoy.
Possibly the worst men's final I can remember watching. There's no denying Fed's godlike play though.
That's true. But when it's this much of a walkover it's like watching an efficient machine.
I think there was evidence of him being human in the third. He just eased off, as if thinking 'if I win 6-0, which I could, he'll be crushed and will never play again'. The big softy.
Or maybe he was just coasting home, like Bolt strolling over the line.
Although I'm a sucker for the noble code aspects of certain sports, so I'll take your reading of it.
Turns out Cilic had a blister on his foot. Should have burst it, bandaged it and taken a couple of painkillers. I expect nerves and Fed being on the march were the real reason for the waterworks and capitulation.
If only he'd had you there to tell him this...
Very clever. Can you prove that what I have written is factually wrong?
Yep, that's the bar here.
Little Baby Jesus - Not sure what point you're now making or what it is you don't like about my last but one post. What I'm saying is that Cilic's blister shouldn't have been a major issue. Seem to remember Murray losing a toenail without grumbling during his successful US Open final of 2012.
Belboid - No idea what your point is either but it's best not to call don't call someone a 'prick' without explanation and then disappear.
Disappear? Not replying to your drivel immediately is disappearing? Silly little boy.
'Waterworks'? What kind of wanker says that, apart from the likes of Piers Morgan?
Excellently reasoned reply. Your hysterical posting shows a complete lack of tennis/sports/life knowledge. Be a good boy/girl and avoid replying to my posts in future. Thanks.
I note the TUC reference under your name. No wonder the TUC is on its knees if divas like you are involved in union activity.
That's it from me on this thread - there's a limit to how much gormless stupidity I can take. You are a complete vagina, though, and I'm guessing you know that.
PS: All good fun. See you on the US Open thread.
He says it was an issue.
Marin Cilic says foot blister caused meltdown in final
You're not allowed to get a medical timeout for an existing injury/condition, are you? I guess he managed a way round that, somehow.
It's a real shame though. Good tournament with some cracking games. Nadal-Querrey and a couple of Konta matches stood out for me. But both singles finals were a bit of a let down. It happens.
He didn't take one, did he? You can bring a doc on to assess if you need one - which Cilic did. But he never took the actual time out, so the injury had to be left pretty much as was.
I'm pretty sure one was called, and the medic applied a pad and some spray, and Cilic took an anti-inflamtory or summat.:
Here's Pat Cash, no less, answering a random blog query about this question.
This bit seems relevant:
This condition was clearly aggravated during the match, and could clearly be improved within the time allowed. Seems fair dinkum.
Aah, okay, I was distracted by children at that point. Fuck knows how he scammed that then. Well, apart from there was no way the umpire was going to allow an abandonment if it was at all avoidable.
Hmm, any injury will be aggravated during a match, so that it seems like a deliberately vague rule.
Cash makes that very point!
tbf it seems harsh to me not to allow treatment for blisters.
He's obviously a dude with his head screwed on right then.
John Humphrys putting the boot in. He couldn't even get her birthplace right.
