Wimbledon 2008...

Let's face it, there are some hopeful prospects for Britain in the women's tennis particularly, but in this competition the UK contingent aren't going anywhere. Murray looked dully competent on a day when Nadal looked like a man on fire, Keothavong should be pleased with yesterday's effort and take heart whatever happens in her match against Williams, but realistically that's a match with only one possible outcome.

The parochialism of the coverage so far has been pretty annoying, so in a way it'll be no bad thing when they go back to concentrating on the people who are actually in with a chance of making it to the later stages.

Must be pretty mortifying for the British players... a massive crowd shows up to see you get splattered

Why is the UK really not very good at tennis?

I've just checked out the Djokovic vs Safin result and blimey! :eek:
6-4 7-6 (7-3) 6-2! This will be quite good news for the The Fed since Djokovic was in his half of the draw. I think it was a certain Pete Sampras said that Marat Safin was the "future of tennis" after he lost to the Russian in the US Open final 6 years ago (i think?). As gforce said Safin if he's totally screwed on mentally he'll give anybody & that includes Federer and Nadal a run for their money. And of course he's won two Grand Slam titles, it's his well documented temprament & composure that's halted his great potential to be one of the all time best players.

With Davydenko (the number 4 seed) going out yesterday to continue his miserable record at Wimbledon i.e. Five first round exits in seven years. The men's tournament is begining to simmer nicely.

It wouldn't suprise me if there's more upsets in thie year's tournament.

I was at wimbledon yesterday and saw the Djokovic match. It was one of the dullest, most miserable matches I've ever seen. Djokovic was rubbish. The entire match was full of endless mistakes.

The Federra match was far more exciting.

Murray an impressive straights sets win over Belgian Xavier Malisse who was a semi-finalist 6 years back. Brave effort from Ann Keothavong against Venus Williams, but the defending champion moves up a gear (like most champions do) in the second set to win in straight sets 7-5 6-2. But the shock of the day & possibly the tournament has just happened in the ladies singles i.e.

Maria Sharapova (aka Screamapova) the 2004 ladies singles champion has gone out of the second round to her fellow russian unheralded Alla Kudryavtseva in straight sets! 6-2, 7-5!!! :eek:

Stunning entry on Holy Moly's Cunt's Corner:

"Maria Cuntanova:
"Are we playing tennis or being anally shit stabbed with a 14" cock? For fucks sake I've never heard such a cunting racket in my life. "Aaaarrggghhhhhh", "Uuuuuuugggghhhhhh", thank fuck the scrawny shag bag just lost like a complete cunt that she is and sounds.

Someone, please for the love of Christ, do a Monica Sella's on her! Was that to much?"

:eek::D

Gasquet looks a class player, Murray's pulling out all the stops but still gone a set down. Going to need something special to get to the last eight I feel

Gasquet imo is one of the dark horse tips to do well at Wimbeldon, a technically gifted player. Provided if puts his game together on a consistent basis. We'll he's won the first two sets against Murray with some stylish Tennis latest score i.e. 7-5 6-3 and 5-4 serving for the match! Barring a miraculous comeback Murray could well be going out of the fourth round again!
