William Burroughs - Naked Lunch

All I can remember about the film now is something about bugs/bugspray injections and the demonic arse-shaped typewriter.

Cities of the Red Night is certainly very readable and digestible but imo, it isn't that far removed from the Naked Lunch, especially when compared to the Soft Machine or Nova Express, the latter of which verges on unreadable.

Naked Lunch wasn't ostensibly made with the cut-up technique anyway, as was noted above, it was more that it was put together by other people using sections of what Bill had scribed whilst off his tree and making into a wonderful book, a wierd read and a deeply humorous episode.

then maybe you should find out a bit more about the man by reading any of the wide variety of volumes that would inform you more about his life and his views than a tv program. try literary outlaw by ted morgan for a kick-off, then you might ponder the last half of your last sentence for the nonsense that it really is.

Yeah, that was probably a gob of vitriol sneaking out there since I've never much liked the guy. I've read "The Job" and a couple of interviews with him. From what I can tell I suppose he's closer to a libertarian than anything else.

However, he thought the state could do a better job of raising children than parents could, since they pass on their neuroses to them.
