As is "And the Ass saw the Angel".shame cos clockwork orange and riddley walker are both incredible
Book Of Dave isn't bad, the structure of it is quite interesting, but the fact that half of it is written in this future corrupted-east-end-slang dialect makes it just a pain to read a lot of the time. I've never been a fan of novels written in phonetic dialect, particularly if it's been invented specifically for the book.
it's a book will self wrote. some of it is written in a language that has developed hundreds of years after some kind of apocalypse. the only written language left is a diary written by a london taxidriver called dave. the spoken language has developed from the book, so i imagine dave was a spurs supporter and 'hotspur' is,, i supposethe new english's word for 'good'
No, 'it's a load of Hotspur' means it's shit.Sounds fucking gash to me.
i haven't read dave yet, but i disagree anyway. the bridge didn't really have any bastardised english in it anyway.Iain Banks does it well (The Bridge, Feersum endjinn) but Book of Dave just didn't work
I noticed that too. One to miss.vorderman & littlejohn next week - eeuunnggghh!

Eh? One third of the book is in a dialect. The sort of fantasy conan bloke

I didn't know he was an ex public school boy.
Mind you, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall went to Eton at the same time that Cameron was there.
But I suppose with a name like Fearnley-Whittingstall you had to go to private school.![]()
the bridge? all i remember is the bridge, the wide brimmed hats and the coma

Preety obvious i would have thought that he would be an x public schoolboy.
Egotistical twat doing all he can to connect with the plebs whilst barely concealing his contempt for them.
Really?![]()

I remember the dialect but I didn't think it was a third of the book. Also, it's just phonetic dialect, it doesn't also involve made-up words; it's more like Trainspotting than Dave.
I did read one book in future dialect where I thought it was fine (Boxy An Star) but I can't remember any others. I haven't actually read Clockwork Orange I must admit.
