That's ok .. 30 mm sounds more like it and as you say quite heavy. Drill it again to open her up a bit so that the plug slides in easily but not too far. If you have to force the plug in you'll have to hammer the screw as well but it's unnecessary .. have a little practise somewhere you're not putting the shelves.
