Why won't my laptop go to sleep?

you already said that, I just want it to SLEEP when I shut it. Everyone else's does that. Why doesn't mine?

It get's so hot it turns itself off.

That's just mucky! :eek: This is a small child we're talking about, ffs! Or maybe not a child, but a bouncy puppy otherwise! A young thing! Nothing sexy! This has NOTHING TO DO WITH GETTING HOT! :mad:
 
I must cover my eyes and put a blanket over my desktop now and go away to bed. :(

My desktop feels pity now and that is all.

EG (srs answer) how are you trying to change the power settings, via control panel?

Maybe you need to go into the BIOS?
 
When you boot it up, you get a screen before windows starts running, yes? You'll need to look quickly as it'll disappear as windows loads. It'll say something like 'Press F8 to enter BIOS' (it might not be F8, but probably a function key of some sort or another). Hit that key and it'll enter the BIOS. There should be an option for power settings (you'll have to use the arrow keys and enter to access it as the mouse/trackpad thing might not work before windows boots) - see what it says about hibernate.

Don't change anything else though!

I have never seen such a screen :hmm:

All I normally get is a black screen with this _ flashing?:

really? oh.

I dunno then. I just rebooted to see how to get into my BIOS and it says 'Press DEL to enter Setup'. I don't know anyone called Del, so I hit delete and it got me in that way. But I'm on a desktop, not a lappy.
 
Oh God I'm worrying for you now! Don't go into the nasty black screens with the spooky normal type face script nonsense words! :eek:

Can we not think of a more simple answer, urban? :hmm:


After you did the power thing and altered the sleep option, did you try turning it off and turning it on again? :D :hmm:
