Why no John Cruddas for DPM thread???

aye, cruddass is prescott-lite - fucking scary or what?

bloody hattersley is to his left, how bad is that?

The abuse in this thread is completely unwarranted.

Cruddas is part of the soft left of the Labour Party, and his politics are at times inconsistent, but no more so than other people in his political tradition. I have looked at many Labour Party blogs in the last few weeks, and there is overwhelming support for Cruddas from the left of the Labour Party. His manifesto for the deputy leadership election was published last week, and contains some pretty good policies : http://www.joncruddas.org.uk/downloads/ChooseChange_VoteCruddas.pdf .

Yes, but what about bread and butter issues, welfare, housing, inequality, student loans, etc, not everything centres around the war, civil liberties, no matter how central.

he opposed student top up fee's, and has had a belated conversion to the cause of council housing (or 'social housing' at least - but then again even Brown professes to support that now), otherwise he has voted with the government consistently

is it possible that his time in dagenham has changed him?

p.s. he is NOT standing for DPM and says he will not do that job

did prescott have a big 'left' campaign back in 97?

Prezza was the leftist of the candidates - not that that was saying much either.

I don't really see any evidence that Cruddass has really changed much during his time as an MP, as pointed out above, other than on two or three issues, he has been a staunch Blairite the whole time. Like Prescott, he simply has the right accent and talks about class a bit. I might vote for him (I got my union ballot paper the other day), but I probably won't, and I certainly wouldn't campaign for him, as being the best of a desperately bad bunch isn't the same as being decent in the first place. He offers no solutions, merely hopes to organise the Labour Party in a more effective way.
