He's quite openly Blairite mate - I'm pretty sure that he was once a EuroCommunist

more than a bump .. daily mirror readers panel put him top with two 10 out of 10 scores today, and yesterday on Radio 5 one of two punters who got to interview all the candidates went for him

(p.s. its deputy of LP not DPM technically)

he is the only one who seems to be down to earth .. it it a charade?

I get the feeling that Brown wants him as deputy. Can you imagine Brown wanting any of the others in that post?

He supports more money going into H/E...More money for a privelleged group....Not exactly Socialist......

Fuck off Blairite. :D

Not a Blairite at all as you well know MC5....

But i would think a Labour Party led by the people you say you respect as political opponents Jasper and Abbott would be much much worse....
Not that they would ever get elected.

who are you voting for balders? I'd have you down as a Blearsite

Cruddass - still a right-wing shit, btw, conning only the desperate

None of them...
But i suppose my sympathies like with Hilary......Can you imagine having Tony Benn as a dad, being named Hilary and sent to a comprehensive school....

John Cruddas says somethings i agree with. But i really cant get enthusiastic about anyone who claims to be a socialist who calls for more money for Higher Education.

all his 'eft' politics have been discovered miraculously in the last 6-12 months - ie when he realised there would be space for a 'leftish' candidate in a deputy leadership election. Prior to that he was a straight down the line Blairite, not putting a foot out of place. I wouldn't trust him further than I could spit him.

fair play .. though they are all coming from soft left it seems ..( well according to the Scum they are all dinosaurs!!!! )

it sems he does not have a good rep .. is it not possible he has learnt form his time as MP .. one of them has got to be capable of that!!:D

I got an email at work, purporting to come from Ken Livingstone, telling me why I should vote for Cruddas.

To be honest, I didn't read it, but am happy to dig it out and quote it to people if you would like.

Maybe not a 'Blairite', but certainly someone who has been known to praise him on occasions

Jasper and Abbott much worse than Blair? That would be some achievement, particularly, as you rightly say, they would not get elected.

Cruddas voted, with his mate Jabba the Prescott, to send troops into Iraq. He also supported the wars in Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and the Balkans.

I think that he will win anyway. I think that it's a winning strategy for a party to have an extremist in power, whilst his fat spineless deputy sweetens the pill for the more moderate members. Take Prescott for example. He managed to bully the Unions into voting for reforms which were obviously designed to turn the Labour Party into Tories.

I really hope that the party votes for Hazel Blears, the smug ginger dwarf, she annoys the voters so much that so that the Tories get back in and then the working classes might just grow a back bone and actually violently attack the established figures we are forced to respect. (It is true that Tory Governments usually mean more dead coppers, and politicians)

Fuck Cruddas, he's a turncoat spineless Blairite cunt, who has found the way to tune into readers of the Morning Star.

It seems likely hattersley will come out for cruddas hattersley is almost a leftie in this nu labour government.when i was a member of the labour i thought i was on the right of the party but this lot make me feel like joining militant:D

I don't like folk who describe themselves as "socialists" and then proceed to use Tory phrases like "the politics of envy".

He's a twat and the entire deputy leadership candidate list is a proper shower. Not a decent person among them. :(

how exciting, I got my ballot paper this morning. I just have to tick a box saying I support Labours principles and policies then I can have my 'bloody tories' scrawl counted as an official spoilt ballot!

he says he made a mistake on iraq .. maybe cynical ..

you last paras are nonsense though .. geting the tories back in does NOT push people neccessarily to the left

i/m fascinated by this belief he will win though ..

and what is wrong with appealing to MS readers??

Cruddas isn't on the left although he is being projected as such. I think it is just a re-run of the Prescott election - designed to give a bit of 'left cover' to a Blairite prime minister. Prescott proved to be a right loyalist in getting the more left inclined MPs of the time to back Blair in more than one right wing policy.

I hope that Cruddas has enough sense not to repeat the pattern. There aren't any left MPs for him to persuade though - perhaps one or two anti-war ones but he has no credibility in this area.

He would be better than Hazel Blears though, she has an effect on me like a nail scraping a blackboard when she stands up to declaim her borrowed and carefully rehearsed ideas.
