Why isn't Jerry Dammers playing on The Specials' sell-out reunion tour next month?

They were fucking brilliant last night.

Every half hour Nanker jnr (12) pops his head in the door and say 'The Specials really were brilliant last night!'.

I peer up from under the covers, suffering from wine flu, and agree heartily.

not being mushy or anything , but i think its one of those gigs that will forever bring a smile to my face.

Brilliant, just brilliant that gig just pushed PWEI 2005 in to 3rd place out of all the reunion gigs.

It was wonderful to keep on running into so many Unsounders as well.

Sweet.

Were you there tonight? We were there, shame we didn't run into you, it's been a while!

Great gig, really enjoyed it :D

Wine flu - I like it.

I went last night and had a good time

I was up stairs though so it was a bit more subdued than downstairs... which seemed to be frigging nuts

I had loads of reservations about going - mainly no dammers, obv., but also the idea of a nostalga trip and soiling good memories.

At one point I was adament that I wasn't going to go, but then a ticket presented itself.

Anyway...

What a fucking gig!

I'd forgotten how intense the old two tone atmosphere was. Yes it was all old boys, but there were still a lot of hard nuts there. Brought back memories of swirling around on the terraces, amongst other things. Everybody going crazy at the front (and as far back as I could see) even before the gig started. To be honest I was knackered before the band got on, and wondered if I would last the distance, but luckily second wind kicked in.

Thought it was a great set - musically, they are probably even better than back in the day (which surprised me, having seen them on jools), and the performance was very honest IYKWIM, energetic but not forced. Terry was committed and quite sweet, even humble at times (though not while baiting the gooners in the crowd :D).

All in all a very memorable night, and I would urge the doubters to try and get hold of a ticket - and get down the front.

Yeah i had reservations about going to a Dammers-les Specials gig. But fuck, when i found out they
were playing in Sydney,i just had to get a ticket. Man there is a dearth of decent live music in this
part of the world, how could i pass up an event like this. I only hope they ain't too worn out
by the time they reach these shores in July. I was getting seriously envious of all those going to see
them back home. Found out quite by accident they were playing over here. Just flicking through
a sunday supplement and there was the advert.

A similair experience in Coventry for the homecoming gig. I'm still shattered from the mad skanking, body-slamming general rowdiness. Well worth waiting 28 years for. :D
