as you can see there is a website and the exact model.

OK, I now have drivers, the volume turned up and everything, hum from the speakers, but still no goddam sounds...

Open the mixer on the pc and make sure none of the outputs are muted, check the advanced options.

Play something and try all the sockets on the back using headphones.

Perhaps, perhaps you downloaded the wrong drivers?

If no I have 2 audigy sound cards, not sure about one, one I know for certain works. All yours.

Could be, could be. I'll try some more later.

CHeers fella, that's the final thing that gets this machine working :)

Just tried the dodgy one and it started up with it in, but once it installed the drivers it blue screened my machine on a permanent basis.

Could be the drivers don't like having 2 sound cards in at the same time or its not compatible with Vista.

Nope, definitely the right driver, fucking board is borked. I swear this new computer of mine has been more trouble than it's worth!

well. i just got the blue screen of death treatment too. not sure how last known good configuration works, will it keep on blue screening or have i got to do something to save it from this end. like not run the driver that made it blue screen?

You will likely need to identify the make/model of the MoBo, visit their website and download the requisite chipset drivers. They may actually have a separate download package for the Audio part. Depends.

ETA - oops.

I missed a bit of the thread.

I presume you went to the abit website and downloaded this for the audio drivers (realtek) and this for the general chipset drivers for windows?

I was gonna suggest the Realtek drivers too - if in doubt with audio drivers - especially on-board, always try Realtek '97...

I went to the mobo makers website and downloaded what they recommended. I will dothe second bit tonight and see if that helps. Then I've got to work out why youtube and media player and stuff don't work.

Sounds stupid but how old is this PC and do you know if it worked at some point? If so the motherboard board might be coated in dust and this could cause overheating and even things to short out. I have had this problem with a sound card at Xmas and just cleared the dust away and it came back to life.
