why is my cat shitting on the carpet and what can I do to stop her?

She is being rehomed tomorrow - taking her to a shelter where they think they will be able to find a new home for her or look after her if they can't. I am sobbing writing this. I know this is the best thing but I feel utterly wretched

This is so hard. I don't know if this is the right thing but I can't carry on like we've been. Oh fuck fuck fuck

Oh noes! :( There's no 'right' thing to do in this case, only what you feel is best, and you've obviously given it plenty of thought. You can't do much more than that

((((kitteh))))

((((trashy))))

Im sorry it's come to this, but Im sure you're doing the right thing. :(

Who's going to want a 13 year old cat? :(

Since I last posted on this thread I've lost my old cat, he was 21 and in the end his kidneys failed.

So, now i have a new cat. She'd been at the shelter for over a year, had been re-homed, but returned after a couple of months. I've had her for about 5 or 6 months now, we're getting on pretty well - she's sitting on my lap right now. She's 17 - in fact she's 18 soon. Some people do want older cats (for all sorts of reasons) and besides, 13 isn't particularly old. Im absolutely positive your cat will find a good home.

It's not right though - I'm dumping my cat for my baby. What a bitch I am

You're not - your cat seems to be unhappy at her change of circumstance, you can't help that! How would you feel if your baby got ill because of the cat??? You're doing the best for all concerned and that's what a RESPONSIBLE pet owner (and parent!) does.

You're not being a bitch - you've obviously thought long and hard and had to come to a difficult conclusion.

I really feel for you - I'd find this very hard if it was me.

Thank you. That's very nice of you and moose and pfft. And it really helps to know that you've adopted an old cat. I know you're right. Logically, I know it's the right thing but I still feel shit about it. God I'm going to be a total bloody mess in the morning when I drop her off :o

I've got all her records out. It's going to be so weird only having only cat. I have two cats. I've always had two cats.

You're welcome. :)

All my/our cats have been older cats - adopted off the street, from the RSPCA, cat shelters... the rooftop of my dad's work once! In fact, in all my years of having a cat around none of them started life in either the family home or my home as kittens.

I'd offer to re-home your cat but unfortunately Her Royal Highness Patch the Queen of the House who rules with tooth & claw does not believe in flat-sharing!
