Why is ITV copying Channel 5?

It's a real shame that Channel four has gone down hill lately. I would like to see them go back to some pioneering television. I think their main problem is that the BBC are now quite experimental, so Channel Four just doesnt seem 'cutting edge' anymore. What was seen as channel 4-esque cult TV, is now quite mainstream.

if you look at two of their most popular programmes Brookside and Big Brother, you can see TV has changed. Brookside took the lead in controversial issues , prtraying issues that Eastenders and Coronation Street wouldn't dare to show. Big Brother was originally a sociological experiment, I think they were shocked at how popular it has become. Nowadays, Big Brother is the type of show ITV would love and the fall of Brookside was due to other soaps becoming a bit more experimental.

I used to love Channel 4, they had some good comedys, but BBC 3 has now taken over as TV channel for cult comedys. They also had very good films, now a bit more of a rarity- it seems that foreign language and independent films are now shown on on BBC 2, 3 and 4.
