Why is it that one piece of cheese is never enough?

you could invite me for fondue - then it'd be a sophisticated entertaining event.

Perfect! And biddlybee too. We'd probably need two packets of fondue mix wouldn't we - wouldn't want to run short ;)

Soft cheese with a mould rind like brie can give you listeria. And yes - they do observe this in France - my friend is pregnant in Paris and she doesn't eat parma ham or salami either as they say they are uncooked meat. Neither do I now as she's scared me. :o
I'd make a rubbish mum-to-be :D

Hmm just cut a small piece of cheese from the block, have been back to that block 4 times now in the last 10 mins cutting more pieces off, its quite clearly crack cheese and no one told me!!!

mmmmm cheese

Ha. I spent last nights munchies on picking pieces off some Somerset organic Brie. It had melted slightly in the warmth of the kitchen, and it was a cut me and come again situation.

Now, see, thats why I dont buy cheeses... Cant deny myself. Me bad.

I love a racklette, that was from France, although I think you can get them here now. Can I come to your fondue party if I bring it and all the gubbins?

Oi Pony, WTF is "packet of fondue Mix"???

Surely you make Fondue by rubbing your Fondue pot with garlic, combining 2 or more of your preferred cheeses (gruyere, Ementaal, comte is a good combo) with yer good quality white wine, dash of Kirsch, corn flour etc etc......bit of pepper to taste.

At which point does a "Packet of Fondue mix" come into it, you bloody heathen.

Fondue's not too bad either ;)

When's the cheese party trashy?

Soon!

Don't read this thread and then go shopping. I bought cheddar and cheese scones. :o I checked out comte and gruyere to and they're both made with unpasteurised milk so they're out. So it's shop bought fondue. Which is very nice actually :p

I can't find the cheese to make it pasteurised. And I can't eat unpasteurised cheese
:(

So is getting the lurgy from unpasteurised cheese really that bad when you are preggo?

I can't say that cheese has ever, EVER made me sick and I have eaten stuff that has been dropped on to the floor and rolled under the fridge....

:o

A cheese fondue is usually made with Swiss and maybe cheddar cheese, and mixed with either wine or beer. Soft cheeses sometimes pose a health problem, especially during pregnancy. This is due to the fact that Listeria monocytogenes , a bacterium found in soft cheeses, can cause serious illness and foetal death. Some studies have implicated feta, Brie, Camembert, and blue-veined cheeses such as Roquefort, but no problems have been found with hard cheeses (cheddar, Swiss). Since cheese fondue is made from hard cheeses, and is heated before eating, there is no risk associated with its consumption. It can be eaten during pregnancy.

There is a possibility of listeriosis which can kill or severly bugger up the foetus. I've never got ill from cheese either but it's not really worth the risk (this is a very expensive foetus :o :p )

eta Yes I just saw something that said if it was piping hot and bubbling then it's okay! Yay!

Right - comte emmenthal and gruyere it is

Bugs in the cheese, innit.

Same goes for stuff like sushi, things containing raw eggs, celery, etc.

And chocolate, of course - that's highly dangerous for preggers birds. Nothing remotely chocolate related for trashy for months and months and months...

Ooh we could have a raclette AND fondue party

Cheese Feast!

shells - a raclette looks like that and you put little slices of special raclette cheese into those little pans, melt them and then tip the melted cheese onto cooked potatoes and gherkins

In my fridge I have some Brie and also some Mexican Chilli cheese. I am allowed both because I am not pregnant.

But which to cut a slice off first is a major problem. ;)
