Why haven't we slagged this lot off yet?

Yah cause food stamps definitely work, just like in the glorious American Reich

'Tent Cities' appearing all over the US now, welcome to the American Dream and with Purnell its comeing here.

It easy to pick up on this story ,its the usual hate and spite that you expect from the mail.It tries to imply that anybody on benefit is a cheat or scrounger .they obviously have no shame to actually print this drivel

What would happen to them under a different socio-economic model? There a few possibilities.

a) Their love of chocolate hobnobs is caused by alienation and despair brought on by the inequities of the capitalist system. Under a different regime they would look like Olympic triatheletes.

b) Under anarchism, parecon or council communism they would be ostracized and generally beasted by the community until they pull their fingers out and start pulling their weight in OUR cabbage patch.

c) Traditional top down socialism/communism - off to the labour camp for you fatty. 14 hour days breaking rocks with revolutionary fervor in the Cairngorms will sort you out.

d) Scando stye democratic socialism: Here's somebody else's money go and buy more høbnøbs.

I think I saw one of them on the train the other day.
She was taking up two seats which was not an issue but also had bags on the third seat.
Three seats for one person is a bit greedy.

The mother's incapacity benefit is actually due to epilepsy as the article admits but don't let that stop anyone from slagging off people for being fat and lazy.

NNot the case - she gets an extra wedge for those (self inflicted) elements: "Mrs Chawner is paid an extra £330-a-month disability allowance for epilepsy and asthma, both a result of being overweight."

If she hadn't started from being an idle lump of lard, her health would never have degenerated that far.

It's not as if these "persecuted" folk tried to hide away when the man from the Mail came round - they seem more than happy to let the nation have access to their "Disability Diet" - presumably in exchange for a cheque cashed to build up their junk food supplies.

At one time fat was a sign of wealth, and white bread/sugar were wealthy persons affectation. It's all so much persecution of the poorest disguised as paternalistic altruism. See also: the handwringing over cheap booze

Now I know you're not saying this so I'm just using your post as a way in...so here goes. Being incapacitated because you're over weight or by dependency to alcohol isn't either a badge or working class pride or an attack on paternalism. For many people they are unhappy and debilitating experiences which they could well do without.

Given that this is the case how might we seek to lessen the negative effects of being overweight or alcohol dependent (including reducing their incidence)?

I think we need a different question tbh, not to lessen negative effects but to adress why people seek comfort in over eating or alcoholism in the first place.

Well one way to lessen the negative effects would be to tackle the reasons people over eat, over drink and under exercise. I put the question the way I did so that it allows for those who eat and drink themselves stupid but don't appear to be adversely affected by it; I wouldn't want to be seen as some sort of bullying paternalist trying to stop their fun.

You do, of course (being the intelligent fellow I'm sure that you are), know that neither epilepsy nor asthma can be induced by obesity?
Just because a Daily Mosley journalist says so, doesn't mean it's true.

It's acceptable to be fat and/or alcoholic if you aren't at the lower end of the socio-economic heap

What, so suddenly preventative health care - of which having a healthy diet is a big part - is wrong? It's wrong to try and get people out of eating badly?

When it's done by patronising cunts on a huge wedge and done deliberately in the absence of wealth redistribution and whilst cutting welfare services yeah it's a cunts trick.

So it's better to have people who are fat and miserable, who have higher incidence of chronic health conditions, and whom will have shorter lives.

Interesting. Compassionate too. Without X fuck it, let people have bad health and die young.
