Why has Johnny Marr's post-Smiths career been so utter shite?

I liked New Order far more than The Smiths, but you couldn't knock The Smiths for humour and irony at times, and Marr's work has never been bettered since those old days.

Electronic were shite, give or take few remixes, and I just thought Marr's pisstaking of his best work because he doesn't like Morrissey just makes his Electronic project seem more naff.

The Healers' best is much worse than Electronic's worst, though. That band's already over, I hear...probably so he can devote all his time to playing Kev on 'Shameless'. ;)

Getting Away with It was far from naff..

I beg to differ, having been listening to New Order for eight years before it was released.

It's just a New Order track.

As far as Morrissey goes - Vini Reilly of the Durutti Column did him justice on that first solo album, and hasn't slagged him off since...

He's slagged Stephen Street though, over his claiming songwriting credits for the music.

No, I meant Vini hasn't rejected all the work he did with Mozza.

Probably because, again, it was his best work.

Certainly his most recognised.

So New Order are naff but you listened to them for eight years...hmm, sure there's some logic in there somewhere.

You are the quarry is an ace album, certainly up there with the smiths stuff IMO. Johnny Marr is just a guitarist albeit a good one, but mozza had that extra something. New Order are awful rubbish and I can't believe they're still going.......Bernard Sumner can't sing or play guitar for toffee, 'getting away with it'? oh yes....awful.

Don't think New Order are rubbish, just a bit overrated. Personally, I couldn't listen to any of their albums other than Substance. Bernard Sumner isn't the most accomplished singer but I think his voice fits their style, and I couldn't imagine anyone else singing on Temptation and moving me in the same way. I admit he can't cut it live at all though.

Well there is logic in there, once you are able to read English properly, because I never once said New Order are naff, I said Electronic were naff.

Read the thread properly before attacking my logic, yeah?

;)

Erm, your own logic. You said Getting Away With was naff because you had "been listening to New Order for eight years before it was released. It's just a New Order track."

Are you saying it was naff because it had been done before?

No, I'm saying it was naff because Sumner tried to repeat the New Order formula with Marr, and Neil Tennant of all people, and failed.
