Do you think Britain was so different at the height of Victoria's empire? Where did the 'white man's burden' come from, gunboat diplomacy, putting down the wogs and fuzzy-wuzzy's across Africa for their own good?

Fwiw, I think part of what enables imperialism is religion, in the USA - as it was in Britain before - Christian-based morality aids the imperial agenda. And the religion itself is right wing.
