Why do we have to be good?

Ok, what is it defined against and what are the defining differences - higher christianity? middle christianity? Lumpen christianity?

Right. More nonsense.

It's nice how the higher christianity souns a lot like the anemic C of E of max's childhood memory and experience though :D

I asked this when I was 5, and still havnet got an answer.

My mum said 'well it makes life nicer...' and i'ld just heard the easter story at school and said 'well, jesus was good and he didnt have a very nice life!'

Whats the point in being good or moral?

To minimise the risk of this happening again:

I reckon i-am-your-idea wouldn't mind if it did happen again. After all 'nothing exists'.

I bet she would welcome it if it 'opened peoples minds'

To belong to the social group and not be an outsider. People are naturally social animals and we strive to be part of the group. You will find exceptions but they are exceptions to a general rule. People will be good as their social group (whatever that may be, big or small) defines, and usually feel some sort of guilt and shame if done otherwise.

Stay in the group, and we survive better, and we have support and people to talk to. No angry fuckers coming after us.

Course what right and wrong are depends entirely on the group, and logic & own thought may come into it in after a while.

i-am-your-idea wouldn't mind at all if it happened again. There's no way she'd dispute that either.

i-am-your-idea thinks that the images that I posted up aren't truth.

sometimes you will get the opposite reaction.

Yes, and then we punish those people.

Do you really not know why you should be good?

The reason is this. In the end, you can be however you want to be, but after lots of savagery, etc, people began working on the idea that you should treat people the way you'd like to be treated, and if we do that, it'll make it much easier for everybody. I think that's what we're working toward. Granted, all of the laws and all the things considered 'good', aren't necessarily without flaw, but it's still a work in progress.

as you grow up you get taught to think you know whats what. it doesnt always have to end there tho.

you learnt to think you know things, so it can be unlearnt too.

What's that got to do with my post? I'd like an answer on that please.

I'm sick of typing the first part of that in reply to you btw.

(And this is just the stuf that you say you don't do on the 'nothing' thread. uh-huh - were your parents teachers?)

See, that didn't happen to me, what I learned was to take nothing for granted.

Actually, what probably happened is that you were taught to think you know things, and being taught something can be an entirely different thing to learning it.
