hey, it's a rollercoaster ride. we might not win much but it's always unpredictable!

ah yues we are evil and everything is our fault of course!

west ham buys this season.

Kieron Dyer £ 6,000,000 Newcastle
Fredrik Ljungberg Undisclosed(about 3-3.5mill allegedly) Arsenal
Craig Bellamy £ 7,500,000 Liverpool
Richard Wright Free Transfer Everton
Julien Faubert £ 6,100,000 Girondins Bordeau
Scott Parker £ 7,000,000 Newcastle United

who have we piad over the odds for?

Out of that list I'd say Dyer, Bellamy, Parker and Wright. Dyer was already on £80k a week at Newcastle so I'm assuming you're at least matching that, but wtf, he's been out injured for about 2 years of the last 5 at least, IMO he's not good enough to make the England squad. Parker cost Newcastle United £6m but he's done fuck all since he went there except get older and injured, so his value has gone down, and he was on £60k a week, so again I assume he's on at least that now. Bellamy's easily got the class to be a player worth £7.5m but Liverpool wanted rid of him, so he should've been cheaper surely, and £80k a week again (reports state), that's silly money to be paying him, how many other strikers are on £80k a week? Richard Wright is shit.

That's on top of the attempt to buy Andrew Johnson for £19.5m

Just spent money on zat knight? It makes no sense, whats the point of letting ridgewell leave and buying him???

With the other big signings of harewood and reo-coker what the hell are villa playing at?

scott casron is a good signiong but he is only about for the season presumably.

other then young o'neils signings have been toss

I agree with you about Knight and Ridgewell .... particularly as Knight is already 27 whereas Ridgewell is half a decade younger. Knight is a Villa fan from the cradle so that may help, but I'm not sure he's up to the job.

Harewood was another signing which disappointed me. I disagree with you about Reo-Coker who has been a revelation for Villa this season. He has been the midfield anchor-man that we haven't had since George Boateng went to Middlesborough years ago, despite Gavin McCann's valiant efforts. He may have lost form for the Hammers last season but he's been great for us so far.

The basic problem that we have, I think, is twofold:

(1) It is known that Randy Lerner has deep pockets and so if Villa inquire about a player, the price gets inflated for that reason alone.

(2) Despite O'Neill's reputation, it is proving difficult to attract the top players to Villa because Birmingham is .... ahem .... less attractive than London as a place to live and Villa aren't in Europe. This of course becomes a vicious circle .... no Europe, no top players; no top players, no Europe. It's down to Martin to somehow break that circle and it won't be easy. Villa are by no means the only club in this position.

and this is the same problem of course that we have had, particularly back in january. in order to prise players away from clubs we needed to offer silly money. that's survival. i'll take the flak from other relegation-threatened clubs but not from those who are safe and secure. i still haven't worked out if curbs is an idiot or likes taking risks. i like taking risks so i'm technically on his side at the moment.

for. the. last. time.

stop believing what they write in the papers.

bellamy isn't on 80k a week, closer to 40.

parker is on 55.

dyer is on nothing like 80k.

maybe you should be asking newcastle how much they are paying barton?

or viduka?

Sergei Rebrov - Dynamo Kiev, May 2000 - £11,000,000
Helder Postiga - FC Porto, June 2003 - £6,250,000
We lost £1.25 on Postiga  Rebrov was seven - seven - years ago.

Not sure of the point being made?

i think the point was a light-hearted *ouch* at some of the things your boys have spent their money on. i doubt it was meant as any sort of insult. i don't think there's a premiership club who haven't thrown painfully large sums at exotic flops.

Mr O'Neill seems to have a knack of getting the best out of players that don't quite realise their full potential elsewhere.

I think his main concern is simply strengthening the squad. We have played with passion and determination for the last Two games. Chelsea at Villa Park on Sunday should be a high scoring, exciting game with plenty of skill from both teams.

Still need a bit more experienced quality at right back, but the ideas and inventiveness up front seem to be improving with every game.

Maybe he's building the best possible squad with the money rather than splashing out on a couple of big names. Strength in numbers.

fine but still expolain to me getting rid of ridgwell who is younger and better then the new buy zat knight who got arrested just before he signed.

it makes no sense.

hmmm dont suppose we got a sell on fee from the ridgewell deal did we im pretty sure he was out of our acadmey along with mccann.

...

As I understand it Zat was bought in to offer experience and guidance to younger defenders. Perhaps we have some quality young defenders on their way up?

Not that snorting coke is the best guidance for young footballers :D

Yep especilly if he gets banned for 6-8 months beacuse of it. Which he probabely will dpending on toxicology or if he had any on him.

From what I've read, he was in a house that the police had been watching for some time. Hardly surprising since he'd been in town that day for press conferences & signing contracts. I'd be very surprised if there's any charges, or any drug tests taken.

Wenger's got pretty close to avoiding embarrassment (Jeffers maybe his worst, Wiltord I can't make my mind up about) but otherwise yeah, plenty of skeletons in closets.

If Veron really did play only 5 games for Chelsea fror £15 mill, that has to be the winner.

yeah, don't think there's any implication he was involved. It's just funny is all.

i dont get it then. He was put out on bail but not charged how does that work?

Surely if youve paid bail youve been charged with something?

No. Very often the police will bail you before you're charged, so they can consider the evidence (including seeking advice from the CPS) and decide whether to charge you and if so, with what offence(s).

And you don't have to "pay" bail in this country .... bail is simply a release into the community, with or without conditions, pending charge/prosecution/sentence.

so, while we're playing the blame game how about picking on sunderland.
Players in

Player From Fee Date
Michael Chopra Cardiff £ 5000000 13-07-2007
Kieran Richardson Man Utd £ 5500000 16-07-2007
Dickson Etuhu Norwich £ 1500000 17-07-2007
Paul McShane West Brom £ 2500000 26-07-2007
Craig Gordon Hearts £ 9000000 08-08-2007
Andy Cole Portsmouth Free 24-08-2007
Kenwyne Jones Southampton £ 6000000 29-08-2007
Ian Harte Levante Free 29-08-2007

Total: £ 32000000

Players out

Player To Fee Date
Stephen Elliott Wolves Signed 17-07-2007
Tommy Miller Ipswich Free 19-07-2007

so, 32million spent, no money recouped, only one player with proven premiership experience. and WE'RE to blame for pushing prices up.

Noooo, I want to believe them, some of the stories are really funny. I have no idea what Dyer is actually on but the widely reported figures for his weekly wage at Newcastle were 80-90k, which means he's either taken a sharp drop or he um, hasn't.
