Why can't I view my camcorder videos

1. Opening a file with something other than the default application - one-off

Right click the file and choose "open with".
If the application isn't listed, you will have to browse to it - it will be somewhere like :- c:\program files\videolan\vlcplayer.exe (if you do it this way anyway, you'll get the option to tick the box "always open with")

2. make default applications permanent in Windows Explorer.
In "my computer" or "windows explorer", :-

"Tools" - "Folder Options" - "File Types" - "Change" - (browse to new application as in above option)

3. make default applications permanent in individual applications
Most individual applications will have the option in their menus to choose the file-types they handle - though certain ones - like Apple Quicktime - are for ever reminding you that they "aren't the default player for certain filetypes" and it's tempting to click on "whatever" just to shut them up ....

Ah, I know all about Part 1. It's the 2nd and 3rd parts that I know nothing about :o

suppose I wanted to change the default application for .mp1 files from vlc player to winamp :-

That simply sounds like the last video Creative MediaSource Player played ...

I'm guessing it's not capable of playing .mod files.

You should associate .mod files with windows media player or vlc player.

Right, I'm quite proud of myself.:o I downloaded VLC and chose to open with that and it worked... BUT it plays the first few seconds of the video and then the picture freezes :(

this is prolly coz your computer is sh*t/full of sh*t/been sh*tted up.

I sh*t you not....

more seriously..it's prolly "buffering"... a RAM issue...plus I never doubt you've prolly done something that will cause a conflict for some reason or another...it happens...you aren't the only one... usually people just go out and buy another computer...but you wunt wilya?! :D

If it's any consolation(to any1 HA HA HA!) I own about 8 computers at the moment that people couldn't make work..they all work perfectly... in a few months some of their new computers won't work...and about a year after that I'll get another binned one, or four, that I'll make work and hoard...then give to someone...who will no be able to make it work...then it'll come back to me and work perfectly. Ad infibleddhiitum.

One of these types of people I know own's the record in having 6 computers in their office which "didn't work"...they bought another couple recently.... they've started asking for me "to come and have a look at them".

At least you'll never fall into their category of "it doesn't work".

If you cared you'd download this & run it a few times.. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ ... & all the rest of the usual type of things you have to do to make sure everythings tikityboo... but you prolly won't/don't etc etc. Heyho.

We had a lully firework display to end the carnival just now...

I CAN'T afford a computer. My b/f bought this one.

I'll also have you know that I do use C Cleaner :p

haven't done it for a couple of weeks though. Maybe I should give it a go and see if that makes any difference.

back in a minute, although as my bread is currently defrosting on the modem, it probably means the modem will die any minute :D

Still freezing after running C CLeaner

awwwwr... I have to crash...but it prolly is a RAM thang then...personally I would reboot...disconnect from the internet... then reboot... make sure no other progs are running for a start(eg antivirus scans etc)...yes you have to disconnected off the internet before you do anything if you going to start disabling suchlike!!!

It's so simple but yet sooooooooooo complicated... and I'm too tired to bother. :p

V proud of the VLC + CCleaner thang ...see/!!... it does rub in/off eventually. :D

but it's not even midnight

Do you mean just unplug internet temporarily and then plug it back in or just not have any browsers open?

Nod32 is (I assume) always running

PS: The VLC thing only worked because gentlegreen posted pictures for me to follow :o :D

what does that mean? Exactly.

Which Programmes did you stop running?

When you say "logged on"... I presume you mean when you turned Windows on.

That is when you would have also gone onto ensure other programmes weren't running or attempting to run.

You need to be able to know what is and what is nopt running.

You have already said diagrams would help more that words.

So hopefully gg(GG sounds toooooo HUGE) will have some spare time to provide you.

I have a Beach to play on. :D
