Why can't I view my camcorder videos

Win2K has explorer - or "my computer" ... if you can't find it in the menus, hit the "windows start" key and "e "...

Browse to the card, go into the SD Video folder and then see what's in all the sub-folders, and copy them into one folder on your PC.

While browsing "SD video", you can choose "search", and search for "*.mod" as a way to get at all the videos on the card.

I already do that. I know the sub folder will be PRF017 (videos taken today)

The search bit I'm not sure about though :D

So you can play that video on the camera but it isn't on the card ?

Is your camera's date and time set correctly ?

oh why do I do this.....

WMP=shite

Creative=okay...but inherently shite and stuffed coz you are stuffed on a stuffed box with a stuffed OS...you really make it hard for yourself & yet...:D

MOI is the file extension for the index file accompanying the MOD video file format used on many camcorders, such as the JVC Everio, and the Panasonic D-Snap SD-card camcorders.

:hmm:

a simple Google version answer is this

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081217192010AAFUBeK

another answer I found was to download and install the codec pack k-lite http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

I imagine you could also try Uninstalling & Reinstalling the "camera" & Creative...and then do the necessary housework to clean-up behind you..but you prolly won't innit.:p

HTH...no red-mullet fishing this week...tides tooo high. :)

which one do I install?

install vlc + k-lite. to view.

you now wish to convert the MODs?

okay...try the simpleton's approach first.

RENAME macaque.MOD to macaque.mpg...what happens? :D

or

http://convertmodfiles.com/

if you can't find a 2000 compatible thingy then tough.

Uninstall & Reinstall Creative/the Camera et al...like any norm would do.

Minnie...peeps tell you do things butcha dunt...so I reckons you'll still end up asking your b-i-l to do it aanyways.

/no more from moi.:D

I don't. I was going to install one of those last night but it didn't say Windows 2000

PS: I tried installing it last night and it failed. I'm trying it again, but it looks like it's going to be another failure.

I'm going to reinstall the Panasonic software

good luck.:D:D:D

to view with Windows Mediocreia Player(which is PANTS btw) you need to install extra codecs(pffft...I'm not going into it)...Google says k-lite should do the trick.

BUT you repeatedly, & figuratively, hammer stuff into your lappy with no diligence..this is how things get, like a ball of string, all knotted up... I won't be holding my breath... I'm in fact off to the Beach...agin.

hopefully the weather will improve when the tides come back & I can resist posting by going learning more fishinge instead. :p

Well that didn't seem to work (reinstalling the camera software).

Which Codec one will work with Windows 2000? Oh right, K-lite :o

PS: Can't ring b-in-l as modem keeps dying so can't use VOIP, obviously we can use landline if we want huge bills

Hm, did that, but all the file extensions are the same.

When I manually change a file extension to mpg it works though

Right, I've put a brand new memory card in and taken a video.

My first folder is PRG001

In that folder is:

PRG001.MOD
PRG001.MOI
PRG001.PGI

On PRG001.MOD, Nero Media Player control centre comes up.

When I click on PRG001.MOI or PRG001.PGI I get the macaque.

.mod is the mpeg video

Those other filetypes are just small data files used by the camera.

Gawd noze what the macaque thing is about.

so why is Nero Media Player control centre coming up on the Mod extension?

It depends what order you installed all the different applications, and which extensions you said they should handle.

Personally I find the Nero media player a pain in the arse - tend to have VLC play videos.

If you ever want to open a specific file with a specific application, right click the file and choose "open with". If you actually browse to program files\<rest of path to application>, you get to select "always open with".

Maybe preferable in your case would be to make it permanent - in "my computer" or "windows explorer", :-
Tools - Folder Options - File Types - Change

Most individual applications will have the option in their menus to choose the file-types they handle - though certain ones - like Apple Quicktime - are for ever reminding you that they "aren't the default player for certain filetypes" and it's tempting to click on "whatever" just to shut them up ....

I've no idea why it's giving Nero as an option

Because you probably installed it later than the other applications or said "yes" when it asked you whether you wanted it to be the default app.

You must have a fairly decent copy of Nero because the "lite" versions don't expressly recognise .mod files - so I'm guessing it's something you "acquired" recently ?

(Nero tries to do everything these days - audio editing, stream playing and capture ...)

Nero's been installed for ages. It's only the control panel coming up.

This is all very frustrating. Should I uninstall Nero, Windows Media Player, and that other one and uninstall my camcorder and start reinstall them all again? And if so, in what order?

No.

There's nothing wrong with any of it.

As I said before, decide what it is you want to open / edit your video files with - either temporarily or permanently.

You can't do fancy things with video on PCs without getting a little bit geeky ;)

I don't know how to do that or you're putting it in a way I don't understand :hmm:

1. Opening a file with something other than the default application - one-off

Right click the file and choose "open with".
If the application isn't listed, you will have to browse to it - it will be somewhere like :- c:\program files\videolan\vlcplayer.exe (if you do it this way anyway, you'll get the option to tick the box "always open with")

2. make default applications permanent in Windows Explorer.
In "my computer" or "windows explorer", :-

"Tools" - "Folder Options" - "File Types" - "Change" - (browse to new application as in above option)

3. make default applications permanent in individual applications
