Why are some women, but not men, afraid of flying birds?

Are you scared of flappy birds?

The Eagles Les!

When my eldest was about 18 months, a Jackdaw took a shine to him and started flapping around his head whenever we were outside.
Then one day I heard a noise in the bathroom and went upstairs and this Jackdaw had flown in through the window and was sat on the shower rail. I had to force it out of the room by advancing toward it with a towel in front of me whilst chanting 'The power of christ compels you!'
That's the only time I've been scared of a bird/harbinger of doom.

I think I would die if that happened to me. :eek::eek::eek:;)

My mum's terrified of birds. Her mum had a myner bird when she was young which she hated, so maybe it comes from that.

She was once travelling on the bus when a big bat flew in the window and landed next to her, she don't like bats much either, now.

It means that an exception tests a rule. (The sense of proof here is the same as in "the proof of the pudding").

So here is the proposed rule: some women but no men are afraid of flying birds.

Some evidence comes to light: there are reports of at least one man afraid of flying birds.

Therefore, the rule is untrue: some men are afraid of flying birds.

The rule has been tested by the exception, and found to be faulty.

~~~*~~~
I have another piece of evidence to submit:
My wife caught a bird which flew into our house, in her hands, and set it free outside. She was unperturbed by the incident, and concerned only for the fate of the bird.
This is an exception to the clause of the rule suggesting all women are afraid of flying birds. We have evidence of at least one woman who is not. Therefore the rule is again tested by an exception, and again we must conclude that the rule is faulty.
The proof of the rule was in the exceptions.
I vote for danny :cool::D
I think women are statically more like to be afraid of birds because...
Its a long hair thing. Fear that the bird (or bat) will get caught up in their hair and start pecking / biting. Or so I've heard it explained to me.
I just added a poll for this important scientific research. Please vote.
Went for comedy option, as in 'once paid a pest control company £30 to remove a bird the cat had killed from the bathroom floor' sort of comedy.
'I'm a girl and scared of some birds' doesn't cover it. :D
I don't know what it's about but for me it's not just birds, I don't like insects flying near my head either(I'm ok with butterflies).
I'm not scared of snakes or spiders though.
Think the 'it might get tangled in your hair' thing has some credability coz I can sit in a room with a bird flying about if my hood is up.
I'm sure the tangled in hair thing is part of the reason for a lot of people.
Damn, I wish I thought to do a poll at the beginning. At this rate, I'm not going to have enough results to get my research published in Journal of Avian-Human Interactions...
Have we had a bat thread recently.?
My great aunt used to swear that the plush part will stick so firmly to your hair, you have to cut the hair to remove it. :rolleyes:
I'm scared cos as a kid I saw The Birds
I like birds but I don't like the flapping!
Me too. You can imagine how delighted I was to wake up from a kip on the sofa to find a magpie flying around the lounge. :eek: My fucking cat had brought it in through the catflap. I just screamed and screamed til magic sam came to the rescue. I then commando crawled out of the room and screamed some more. It shat on my laptop too. :( :D
I am afraid of cassowarys, but they don't fly
They have very sharp feet and can rip a human open if they are in a bad mood.
Fortunately you don't see them in London
The birds on the A2 have been reading this thread.
They shat all over my windscreen not once, but twice as we drove back from Canterbury this afternoon.:eek:;)
My partner reckoned they know I don't like them........just know.:eek:
