Why are some people such tossers?

I used to live near a crossing which not only did people zoom over, but they zoomed over with limited line of sight because it was a bit after the top of a slight rise. I'm sure they all reckoned that they were such good drivers that they'd have no trouble stopping or dodging pedestrians.

On the other hand the one who hit my flatmate's best friend there one day - coma, never woke up, dead a few days later - apparently wasn't.
fuck.

I'm just stating the reality, that if your bike was where it was in the diagram, it would have pissed off the motorists.
but why should it though? sorry for calling you an idiot or whatever (i've been drinking) but how was it 'blocking' them if they are required by law to stop at a zebra crossing when there is a pedestrian waiting.

i have every right to use the full lane, providing i am not causing a hazard, which in this situation i wasnt

Because if you look around, people are breaking the law all the time. People in cars don't like it when they see a manually powered cycle in their path.

Yeah I know that, don't forget I see this shit on a daily basis, its just that this time it was someone more vulnerable than me who was put in danger. Which is why it pissed me off more than the usual occurences. But the fact that it happens 'all the time' doesn't mean I should have to accept it, or not question it, or not get pissed off about it.

TBH I wish I'd broken all 3 wing mirrors rather than just gently bumping my bag into one of them

Yes people are tossers ..

I was stationary on a slip road leaving a dual carriage way when I spied in my mirror a car cresting the rise behind, going at least 70, straight at the back of my vehicle. It suddenly realised (perhaps it had been on the phone or something) and slammed on its brakes at which point it completely lost control and headed for the left hand crash barrier. Phew I thought, momentarily, perhaps this idiot will not hit me but then I saw they had made contact with the crash barrier which had bounced them back into the road across the back of two lanes of stationary cars and smash / whumph they hit the back of my car pushing me and my kid forward in our seat belts.

Damage to my car £1,600 and because it is old it is deemed "uneconomic to repair".

Luckily no one was hurt I guess it could so eaily have been worse.

She, for twas a woman driver, said how much worse she felt about it knowing that I had my kid in the car with me. What a heart warming thing to say, it would have been better is she just nearly killed me and I was on my own. What kind of a way to think is that ?

I used to bicycle commute to work. What I tried to do, was do what was safest for me and for others. My assumption was that cars would always do the wrong thing, that people couldn't see me, etc.

I'm always amazed when riding to work that when approaching a red light and closing in on the next car, the one behind will always overtake to fill the gap then slamming on the brakes before I reclaim my position in front.

Had trouble this morning in the car too. A woman in an Audi with private plate, cut me up to join the lane just ahead of me. Soon as I indicated right she changed her mind and pulled in front of me again, probably thinking it was her private fucking road too.

well, i try to do whats safest for me and others too.

i thought it would be safer to stay in the middle of the lane since i was travelling at the same speed as the rest of the traffic, and also being in the middle of the lane means that people dont dismiss you, you are right in front of them so they do see you. it generally works.

also, i thought, if i'm in the middle of the lane then no-one behind me is going to be able to come past me when i stop for this pedestrian, but i was obviously mistaken, these cunts didn't care that there was a woman in the road, they just wanted to overtake me because i am a cyclist, and so that they could get to the back of the traffic queue quicker.

they didn't gain anything by overtaking me, and they wouldn't have lost any time by stopping, but no they chose to ignore the fact that there was a vulnerable person in the road who they legally should have stopped for, and potentially could have killed

I think drivers have to accept that there are a lot of things that can distract them from being a safe and courteous driver.

What with kids making a noise to the mobile ringing to the stereo to distract you, it is easy to drive a length of road and then realise that you had not been paying attention at all to what you were actually doing wrt other road users.

I used to think that I was an excellent driver and perhaps for a while I may have been but I know that I have been guilty of letting my standards slip. Its just too easy to let your attention drift off on to something else and potentially to lose track of what is actually happening around you.
