Why are dubstep fans retarded morons?

Some interesting replies, it does all vary quite a bit.

I find the clouds a bit erm indie or something

I defy anyone to listen to
I'd say those tracks are as far mental in the electronic department as I'd venture.

Bristol's awash with Dubstep at the moment and has been for too long. Still go out to these nights, and the thing i don't get is how everyone looks so bored and is hardly dancing for the whole evening. Seriously, it's like they've just announced a death. One time they stuck on some Reprazent after a dubstep set and the crowd went mental and had a massive boogie.

So they then switched back to more droning dubstep.

This is part of my argument, too many DnB fans

Dubstep is a fad, just like so many others before it.
Back when i was younger i loved the acid techno - i thought it was the finest music ever created and i DID stomp around, angry and fierce, just like kids do now to dubstep.
When older people told me that they didn't like it, i just couldn't understand why. Then when i got older and exposed to more dance music, my tastes broadened. Now theres an older generation that doesn't get dubstep - its perfectly normal.
I 'get it.' I dont think all of it is great and it is different from what i am used to, but i don't malign it as much as some others do.
I'm sure as i get older, some form of music will come along that completely baffles me.

Yeah this is always going to be the case but it doesn't apply to some set standards of music. Reggae for instance, there are probably blips and fashions but a good example of the genre will always stand out played at any point in time.

Deep House has surpised me the most. I thought it would have died out but then you get these amazing tracks created and listened to by older people who heard the first lot and then you hear it's coming from Germany and it gets even more confusing.

I guess dubstep just plays on my liking of dub. (and bush)

But the vast majority of dubstep is utter shite imo. I think any dubstep that I like will also fit into another category.

I probably would have stumbled across it sooner or later when searching through idm/ electronic dub/ ambient type stuff.

those dubstep allstars mix cds are pretty good at getting the best dubstep

I'm 24 and I like dubstep.

However, at a party a few weeks ago there was TOO MUCH of it. There was supposed to be 2 rigs, but only 1 made it. But the whole crew from the other soundsystem were there and wanted to spin aswell. So there was like 25 DJ's at this party or something silly :(

It was my mates' rig that was there and my last and only chance to play out on it. Was tryin to spin some breaks/techno at like 7AM but got pushed in front of at the last minute by a kid playing guess what... more dubstep!! The same tunes you heard 6 hours ago but not mixed as well!!

:mad::mad::mad:

I went to FWD a couple of years when it was on a Thursday (or Fri, can't remember). I was quite drunk, having been out beforehand but I quite enjoyed the experience, the sound of the rig inside Plastic People, swaying to the basslines emanating from the speaker stacks. It was good to see the energy of the youngsters, crowded around the DJ booth, giving it the large and going crazy at the rewinds... all reminded me a bit of when I used to go the Metalheadz sessions on a Sunday back in the mid 90s at the Bluenote. Having said that, I've not gone out of my way to go to other nights, either there or elsewhere. Personally, I find the music just... too dark and the 'farting' or squelchy basslines too prevalent for a more than cursory interest but that's not to knock it for anyone else who loves it, music is a subjective medium after all and most of the music in any genre sounds pretty generic with only the minority of the producers at the top, creating the releases that are truly ground breaking.

One of my friends has put out a couple of well received releases and is building on the recognition he's got as a result with his Infrasonics label (plug plug ;)), good luck to him, not totally my cup of tea. Where I'm personally at now, I need to hear more explicit soul in the music that I listen to, buy and consume. That said, I have bought, errr, two dubstep tracks in my time although they don't actually sound like your typical dubstep tracks (yes, there's probably a sub-genre with which to label them but I think I'm correct in that these are two dubstep artists though):

dubstep is wrong.

someone should ban it all over the planet. hardcore dub instead, that's good for your head. with rootical bass that mashes up the place

A lot of those wobbly basslines just sound cheesy as fuck, and are annoyingly repetitive.
I dont really like the slowed down garage beats either give me 4/4 or breaks any day.

wobble is horrible

like wobbly drumnbass

it's just done with two vst effects and an arpeggiator

bringing the game into disrepute

I think I'm probably an old fart - but I just don't get the lack of energy in dubstep...I mean I can understand the stomp of d&b or techno or even hard house/trance - it has an uplifting energy - even good dub or reggae has it - but dubstep just sounds like it's being played on the wrong speed. Also I've never heard a woman say she likes it. rubbish. and thats coming from somebody who will defend dance music to anybody! I can honestly say the most bored I've ever been at a dance night is when they were playing dubstep. I don't think it will be around in a few years time...

Toasty Boy is more Breakstep, innit :)

...and that Res, wo track fits in a bit with "Aquacrunk" (is that what we're still calling it?), what with it's synthy goodness.

Both still have Dubstep elements though.

Lot of it sounds like pitched down old skool hardcore, the strings, the keys, etc, with some d&b bassline palyed at 33 stead of 45 running underneath

Ie pretty naff

Who ever said (isitme I think ) anything between 120 and 150 bpm is getting called dubstep - hope it was typed for laffs like - if any of this multi faceted dullness rises higher that 70bpm i will drop dead of shock

PS I blame its rise on the popularity of Ketamine, another dull as you like way of wasting time.......

Came across an album the other day called Great Lengths by Martyn, which incorporates a bit of dubstep and its the first use of those sounds that Ive really enjoyed but thats because it mixes up a wide range of influences (dubstep, house, techno, jungle) so doesnt get boring and repetitive. Keep it interesting, mix it up.
