I don't think so, except insofar as Tranmere (who had to win to stay up, and did) played their last game on the Friday night.I think Lincoln's relegation on the last day of the 1986/87 season also saw games being played when other teams had already finished their programme of fixtures.
Well, it did, for those of us who watched the match. Though I admit the last few minutes were less than wholly competitive.
And anyway - wasn't the result of the other game irrelevant, insofar as Sweden and Demark would both have qualified with a draw regardless of what happened elsewhere? So you could have played them at different times anyway.
Yeah, I can certainly recall that one game finished late because I remember the game at the Manor had finished quite some time before and I was still following events on the radio outside the ground.Fair enough, I was only going from vague memory
Perhaps I'm confused by the whole police dog business at Torquay causing a significant delay on the day
You did watch the game? Could have finished any score. It needed to be 2-2. It ended 2-2.
It's shit, why are they both played at 7:45pm now, and not one at 5pm and one at 7:45pm?
It might be a stupid question, but I can't seem to think of a good reason.
I want to watch both, not have to choose.

The final group games of tournaments have always been like this. Seems a strange thing to suddenly bitch about.
It actually came about when Germany and Austria, in the final group game at World Cup 1982, went into their game with Algeria having alread played their final game, and knowing that if Germany (I think) won 1-0, then both they and Austria would go through. I believe that if the game had finished any other way, Algeria would have gone through instead of Austria. Astoundingly, the Germans won 1-0 and the Algerians complained bitterly. Ever since then the group games have been simmultaneous for the last fixture.
