Hmm, looks like Jeff is winning the poll atm. And I always got the impression that liking his version of hallelujah was a u75 faux pas right up there with listening to the beatles...
it is. the results would look a lot different if it wasn't an anonymous poll...

I wonder what Johnny Cash would have made of 'Hallelujah'?

I reckon, if he did it as well as he did 'Hurt' it would have been a classic.

Jeff Buckley's

something I posted elsewhere ages ago -

"one of the reasons - both from the lyrics and Jeff's delivery is the mix of the spiritual and sexual
and the frission of not knowing if the narrator of the song is address a man or a woman or switching between the two. Rufus Wrainwright's cover is good but it loses that.

IIRC correctly Leonard Cohen origanaly wrote it as a poem, then recorded it as a song, but only using some of the verses. John Cale recorded it for a tribute album using some of the origannal verses, Jeff's version was an adaption of his and Rufus's a straight cover of Jeff's.

I've heard about five different versions
personal order:
1. Jeff Buckley either Grace version &/or live on one of the Grace eps
2. John Cale
3. Rufus Wainwright
4. Leonard Cohen

(oh and it's John Cale's version in Shrek but Rufus' on the soundtrack)

and I've heard a version by a female singer (radio 2 country/americana) once but can't remember who it was or much about it."

Only if you are actually bothered by what other people think of your music taste.......

but it is quite annoying for me, as a snob :D

like the reason that there are 5 threads about halleluljah all of a sudden is because of XFactor. i do like the music forum on here because i find out about bands that iwould never hear of otherwise, but then someone on XFactor sings Halleluljah and it's a thing

Noone has ever started a thread about my music, maybe I should go on Xfactor ffs

and what's more, I have started threads about people who are worth checking out who will never get heard of due to the media like Dumbsteppaz and AAKurtz and I get no replies.

But anyway.

I think I'll go watch some more of The Wire. I'm into season 2, with the docks etc. Way better than the first season, even with the gaffes and unevenness, like Omar: the openly gay black gangbanger, kissing boys on the street. As if.

If the Sopranos was an A+, I'd give The Wire a solid B minus, or maybe even a B.

there isn't one thread about deerfoot who are a great band who need exposure but there are a load about halleluljah which is overexposed

What I did with season 2 was watch it and post on here at the same time

the true stuff makes you depressed and the fictional stuff makes you depressed. i like it better than the sopranos but I can see why people wouldn't

I'm on season 3 but I haven't got the torrent sorted yet

I think it's a great story; I just don't think that the acting and the writing are up to the standard of the Sopranos.
