Who's in Herne Hill / Tulse Hill / West Dulwich

It's a shame about the Hamilton. The Regent, The Commercial and so on - the Half Moon's the only real 'proper' pub with a real mix of people left down there, possibly with the awfully-decorated (but friendly) Ganley's as an exception too.

That said, has anyone noticed that D from the Hamilton is now on trial as manager of the Hobgoblin. It's good to see him back - pop in and give him some support.

although been fairly close into town anyway i bike in to work (another bonus)

That's the plan for me n' all.. takes me 15/20 mins from coldharbour lane to my office on high holborn, so I reckon 20/25 mins from HH. Not bad at all, be good actually, sometimes my current ride feels a bit too short to be any excercise at all.

Have you tried the new bakery opposite H.H. station...its the nuts!!!! and then Sunday roast round in the paddy bar round the corner..finished off with walk in the park and spliff in the secret garden...

*feels homesick*

really that would be mega cool, cos me and the cabbage are hoping to buy a bit closer to where i used to live (it was nice and quiet). I should say i used to live at the start of Dulwich road so i had the best of both worlds, only 10 min walk from brixton but quiet enough that i felt safe at night walking back, the park, the lido. I really loved it there and miss it loads, so deffo gonna try and move back, stockwell sucks

I live in between Brixton and Herne Hill and I love it! Quiet and leafy but with shops and pubs only a short walk away.

Heh heh, Mr Inca.. I love that photo of him asleep on the park bench. He always rounds my change up as well. Chocolate Box is cool too, the smallest shop in the world but I like its style.

i know mr inca is such a sweetie and his grand children are just little chooches too, i was really pally with ricky from the chocolate went in a while back just say hello. Its was also a lot nicer when they stopped emloying the scary dark haired lady too.

I live in West Dulwich and have lived in Herne Hill in the past. My preference would be for Herne Hill .... there is more to do on your doorstep in terms of bars, restaurants and the shops and transport links are better. West Dulwich can feel a bit middle aged sometimes .... which is why I rarely go out there. :o

Yeah, I've always been leaning towards Herne Hill.. but if the right property came along in WD or TH then I'd consider them!

Howabout crystal palace ?

It's not much further out than west dulwich, plus buying a house there would be a sound investment with the tube arriving in 2010.

Plus loads of pubs n restaurants

It's just that bit too far out to be honest.. on lazy days I'm not gonna wanna ride that far to work, and then it'd take ages to get in on train, and if I'm pissed and in the centre of town it'll take hours on the nightbus to get home etc..

<bookmarks thread>

me and mrs hektik will be buying somewhere around this area sometime next year hopefully....

Oh and i forgot to mention there is the award winning " ollies " fish and chip shop/restaurant which has won the U.K. fish shop of the year.....quality...

Cafe Provencal (sp?) next to the Half Moon is a quite pleasant bar/restaurant. We go there a lot.

I live in the West Dulwich\West Norwood\Gipsy hill borders and it is not too bad now we have a lil mini tesco.

your having a laugh?

BRING BACK SUPERFOODS!!!!!

i live near the tesco in west dulwich, its alrite round there.
near enough to the hustle and bustle and also near to parks etc.

pubs are crap though and the transports a wee bit pap if your a tube fan but that is reflected in my cheap as chips rent!

 You must be mad, superfoods was like an overpriced cornershop compared to tesco. :D

We must be nearly neighbours then cos I live very near the tesco. :)

Their fishcakes are the dogs, I also like Pullens (same owner) for overpriced food (though the new french chef has managed to reduce the prices somewhat)... ;)

yeah and it made me make the effort to use it only for bare essentials - and it had more interesting products and fruit and veg that actually was fruit and veg!

tesco sucked me in for ages before i realised i was eating sub standard produce and about the same 5 things for dinner every day

plus the queues

oh right. i live above one of the shops in w dulwich

Oh yes..pullens fillet steak with just garlic butter and some side salad and thick chips with mustard mayo.....drooling..Herne Hill rocks...but what happens when all you media types move in and change the character of the area...
It happened already with the commerical going all wine barrery..

how long before they get Brockwells shut down and fully gentrify....

It's always been pretty mixed in Herne Hill classwise. It's always had the middle class spill over from Dulwich and the house prices always reflected that.
It's definitely getting going again though. The flat next to my mums (3 floors incl. ground) has been turned into flats for SIX people!
