Who's had the most ethically dubious job?

And as for the teachers, are you serious that public school teachers are paid less than state school teachers? That sounds quite wrong to me! Or surely they'd all be in the state school

It really depends on where you are in the country. In London, for example, state school teachers get a London allowance and some boroughs pay an extra recruitment and retention allowance on top of that. A state teacher doing the same job in a rural area might be on quite a bit less (cost of living and all that). They're all on a national pay scale though.

Private schools, on the other hand, aren't obliged to adhere to the national pay scale, though quite a few of them choose to do so. Teachers in private schools aren't obliged to have a PGCE either (though the vast majority do have one); those without one can find themselves being paid quite a lot less because of that. Still, I know a lot of teachers and the ones working in private schools aren't generally paid as much. The reasoning goes that the kids are often better behaved and easier to work with; it's therefore easier to recruit staff, so they don't need to pay as much because they will always have applicants desperate for jobs because they can't cope with tough inner-city state school kids. Of course, the bigger/more expensive private schools do tend to pay a lot (there's plenty of these in London), but there's no guarantee for the smaller ones.

I worked in Primark, I hope there clothes aren't made and were never made in a 3rd world sweatshop.
No, actually Primark clothes are ethically produced in Turkey (according to Woman's Hour on Radio 4).

I've been employed by

Natwest Financial Markets
Royal Bank of Scotlan
Credit Suisse
Deutsche Bank

the rest of the time i like to think i was fighting the system from the inside & many of my managers would probably agree :)

Have worked for over 20 years in ad agencies – writing tv, press, posters for ‘baccy, children’s toys, crisps, fizzy drinks…

I know, that's why we all don't bother making even half decent programmes. We all sit there and go 'feh'.

:)
I can't get ITV,CH4 or CH5 over here so I get anything I need from UKNova, but I realised that I hadn't downloaded anything form ITV or CH5 for over 2 years. So I DLed that Sharon Osbourne show for the missus... jeesh. ITV is The Sun of terrestial channels. Not that BBC1 is much better once you get rid of the news.

Media buying agencies for 10 years so worked on a fairly wide range of clients (no cars tho)...did turn down Nestlé and BP as potential clients...did some strategy work for the cons****ve party (hey, we needed the money)...worked for Disney, Fox and M&S on kids stuff (dodgy but HUGE amounts of fun, especially the focus groups of kids where you basically get to play with toys all day :D)...did pitch for a chunk of BAE business...oh yeah, worked on Unilever's whole range for a year...

So no real uber-bastards, but a kind of medium-level 'show me the money' hole in my ethics...

Along with another urbanite, I once wrote reactionary propaganda for the Bahrain government. I was even quoted on the front page of the Observer as a name and shame of the publication I worked for :D

Do I win?

Haha, speak for yourself! Can you name one piece of reactionary propaganda I wrote? Your work is etched well in the memory ;)

My (our) current clients are the Barclay Brothers (of telegraph and secretive scottish islands fame)

But we also just did a local authority leisure center so it evens out, I hope. I just hope we never get involved in a project with a real arsehole property developer with a penchant for accidental arson or very well built rent collectors.

I've not long packed in my job as a betting shop cashier - I spent a lot of time taking money off the poor (mainly elderly) and people who were quite obviously fleecing the DSS, all to keep my boss in big gas-guzzling cars and ill-fitting designer suits.

well i worked for Burger King when I was sixteen, i stapled printed canvas onto frames for Ikea and the Art Group. But i think i balanced that out by workign for Lush and for the local county council - technically conservative but also providing homes to disadvantaged children etc :o

Researcher (pro rata) for a lobbying group that represents the alcohol industry.

My disclaimer: I'm an undergraduate, only do one day a week and get paid enough to cover my rent.

I work for a bank that specialises in hedge funds. Minimum balance required is 5m. Does that win?

Wha' ? And you're in Cork? I had no idea there were any hedge fund sort of activities there...though there's plenty of farmers who could probably pull £5m from under their mattresses ;)
