My right elbow appears for approximately half a second in Terry Gilliam's film Brazil. Thing about being an extra is you get paid the same whether you walk around trying to look natural in front of the camera, or hide behind a cupboard door.

I've never been an extra but i was a runner in a short film.

Lots of waiting around. Lots of doing things then doing it again and again just cos they felt it didn't go quite right. I wouldn't work in film for a job...yawn.

'Live TV' - Sports, news, studio shows etc or 'nearly live' - eg sports highlights shows are much much better. Still can involve waiting around, but at least the fact it's for real makes it a bit more exciting.

The BBC series Extras is well worth a watch.

Home at last. Strumpet: the filming was by Smithfield Market. My role involved walking back and forth outside a restaurant while a couple chatted inside and at one point being a moving reflection on the window. The best I can hope for is a blurry haze of silhouetted dreads shuffling by in the final cut.

How do you get work like that. A few years ago some woman stopped me outside a cafe and said 'we're filming inside, can we use you'. I said no. I still wonder what kind of rubbish they were making, and whether I would've got paid or had been expected to do it for the sheer glory of it all, cos I was too hungover to ask for more details.

I've done loads of pop videos, but I'm currently on a proper set now doing the inevitable hanging around. Haven't seen if any well known actors are in it, but I'll keep you posted.

I'm looking through the pics. I can tell you, this blond guy was the biggest twat.

A croatian guy, not that that makes a difference, except as regards accent. Always hitting on this good looking girl who was sitting beside me. Actually, everybody was hitting on her. It was kind of pathetic to watch.

I almost got into the Elizabeth sequel with Cate Blanchett, but they decided at the last minute that a ginger peasant would confuse the audience or something. Which is a shame, because my lumpen medieval features are often commented upon in day-to-day life.
