This.

But I'd rather have Gervais round for dinner. I think he's naturally funnier and more intelligent.

Not a huge fan of Coogan's non-partridge stuff.
That's because Gervais' comedy comes out of understanding the tragedy of the human condition, whereas Coogan's comedy comes out of understanding the cruelty of people.

Brent and Partridge may on the surface appear to be similar but underneath they are worlds apart.

Lynn, I'd like to say that your mother was a nice person, but that would be BULLshiiiit.

You're right Flashman. He should be afraid.

I find Alan Partridge so monumentally funny, so fundamentally hilarious, so histrionically brilliant that it makes me sad just to think of the concept of not finding him funny.

Larry David suffers from not being Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer though. It's like he's tried to wrap all of that into one person and it doesn't quite work.

Partridge is the funnier character by far - he's an utter monster sleb who is both utterly divorced from the rest of humanity, yet also completely and unfailingly aware of his propensity to abase himself for money and fame. Brent is a real person - he's not a 'creation' insofar as he's a portrait of modern Britain in many, many ways (as the whole of The Office is, in fact).

Gervais, for me, is consistently funnier than Coogan has been - aside from Partridge and the Calfs I haven't laughed at his stuff for a long, long time (even the one about the roadie left me cold, altho it was definitely an improvement on previous efforts).

she had an excellent thing where she would interview someone with a microphone that was a dildo. sometimes the people never even noticed. tee hee

Yeah I dunno, Partrdige has just always been one of those things where people with the same tastes as me like it but it leaves me cold.

I agree with KS - Brent just so so so so sums up a lot about the sort of tossers who manage a lot of crappy little offices in the UK, that's why I like it, it reminds me of places I temped in...

I think Gervais comedy is more intelligent. Extra's was excellent. I wish he would do something other than trying to beat hollywood. His sitcoms are excellent, while his films are terrible.

Hey good point, I never clicked but leckie does look a lot like daisy. :)

Also good point about the "no chance". :(

*sighs louder*

put it this way, I stopped being mean to EG whe I saw a photo :D

Wonder what happened to Daisy.......she was fucking funny

Electrogirl looks absolutely fuck all like Daisy Donovan. Seriously not even slightly like her...Daisy Donovan is in the US, by the way.

I rmember she got her own show for a while. There was a funny one when she was interviewing pimps in america, not real pimps but those kind of pimp steryotypes who dress like fucking idiots. She was ripping the piss out of them. :D

I think that there is a bit of Partridge in all of us, to be honest. I think that part of what makes it so funny is that most of us are this <-> close to reacting like Partridge a lot of the time. He says what some dark, secret inner part of us wants to say.

True. Especially the saucy traffic cone routine. :D

Alan Partridge for me - it makes me laugh out loud whereas David Brent/The Office was clever but just not as funny for me.

Also David Brent was a wanker but was basically okay whereas Alan Partridge is just a monster. And, like kabbes says, I think there is a part of us which is kind of like that and wants to be that monstrous
