Who were the most underachieving band of the 1990s?

leftfield, they did 'open up' with john lydon. Pure class. Alot of people rate them for things I haven't heard. Were they as big as they were ever going to get?
i was about to say that - one pretty shit (although critically acclaimed) album, one better but badly selling - then nothing.

Ok, China Drum then.

brilliant first album, pretty good second one. Then label politics, fannying around, PR interference (partly my fault) and the like saw them kinda implode. :(

China Drum were fucking good .

Especially the drummer , fucking brilliant he was !

and that's where it started going wrong. The label decided Adam should be a frontman, got him out from his drums and got Jan from Compulsion (a great drummer, it has to be said) to replace him while Adam stayed - uncomfortably - at the front. That's when it all went tits up, i think.

Natacha Atlas. One of the greatest female artists to come out of the UK, but has been content to potter about doing the same kind of stuff for years without ever quite living up to potential...

I thought Compulsion were quite good, actually...

me too. however i was about 16 when mall monarchy came out, and was easily impressed. i wonder what i'd make of it all now.

i dunno if they were great :p

they were quite good, and i'm a sucker for a singing drummer.

God they were excellent, saw them many times at Reading Fest. Real shame as they were one of a kind. Soulful Punk!:)

Was she in Transglobal Underground? I was gonna mention them.

remember shola ama as well??

16 year old soul prodigy, then she dissappeared and came back as a 30 yr old talk show guest after about 3 years of living 'the high life'

you must have high standards if leftfield were underachieving...;)

The stone roses promised soo much and offered so little. There first album was mindblowing.

Oasis as well, the first two albums, despite sounding a bit derivitive at times, were lyrically and musically great, and really represented the mood at the time. They turned into complete dogshit after that. :(
