Pulp- the only ones on that list that I can still listen to and go "Damn, they're really good" (well, except for Different Class, maybe, but it's got that massive nostalgia value for me). His'n'Hers is a sublime album....

saw them on that Britpop retrospective the other day, had pretty much forgotten they ever existed.

Menswear were pretty bad (2nd rate Pulp clones - especially their singer!), but Sleeper were worse. Or maybe Cast....
 
I don't think that means you'd include the Stone Roses, Black Grape or Radiohead or every band around at the time.
I'm not sure you would either, but I would imagine the media did for the reasons that a) they were around in the mid 90s, b) they were British, and c) they played guitars.

Thank god My Bloody Valentine are spared comparison by their Irishness.
