I could probably have narrowed the poll down a heck of a lot but in the interests of democracy...
I thought Trippier was excellent all tournament and then capped it with that wonder goal last night.
Tempted to say Maguire but I’ll go Pickford.
Got to be Kane
Trippier, but nods to Hendo, Maguire and Stones for being consistently good.
Maguire for me.
Apart from Trippier I think Lingard and Pickford did particularly well
Oh and maguire
ETA Maguire also good, but he freaks me out as he looks too much like a mate of mine from school. I saw said mate at a 40th birthday a few weeks ago and he’s a spit despite being 15 years older
I'm still a little annoyed we didn't see more of Loftus-Cheek.
I voted for Harry Maguire but it's a close call between him and Pickford.
Trippier and Lingard tied for best England goal I reckon.
The system didn't do him any favours. He was too deep a lot of the time and without a natural finisher to play in. Can't fault him for workrate but there weren't enough shots on target.
*checks poll results*
'What, someone voted for Walker? WTF!'
'Ah, someone with 'Blade' in their user name. It makes sense now'.
Trippier, Maguire or Sterling.
I immediately clicked Trippier, although on reflection I'd give it him jointly with Pickford.
having apologised for failing to pick Pickford formy top three of the tournament, I can hardly notpick him for my England player of the tournament. Very hard on Maguire to do so though
Pickford, for the swearing and the saves and for generally handling the main stage at his age. Stones and Maguire highly commended.
Pickford, Maguire and Trippier for overall performance. Kane for goals, leadership vs Colombia and nerveless penalties. Stones for seemingly growing up from a promising kid into an excellent defender despite not playing much for City.
Voted Trippier, really caught the eye in all aspects of his game, plus his temperament in the niggly games.
Walker wasn't bad, considering Trippier had his usual club position.
Actually i shoulda voted Pickford. Kept us in it.
Tripier was solidly consistent AFAIR
You can change your vote. I left that option open deliberately because it is a hard choice.
I voted Pickford because I think he deserved it. Goalkeepers rarely win these kind of votes and for him to do as well as he is in this vote shows just how strongly he played.
I can understand people going for Trippier. (Incidentally, I saw a tweet from Julian Cope’s wife saying “Gotta get him a Trippier shirt. It’s too perfect”).
I think Maguire deserves more votes. A couple of times he stormed upfield with the ball like a decent midfielder, beating a couple of players, and the rest of the team seemed a bit “wtf?” not realising he had this ability and didn’t know what to do. He’s definitely got a big future. He also came across as understated in his interview with Gabby.
ddraig only has three votes. The poll’s been fixed
why have you tagged me in this thread i'm not in or made a post on?
and planetgeli why have you added that option?
not been on here and this is what comes up in my alerts, bit sad no?
Because I have a sense of humour, unlike you.
You talk about people being ‘sad’ and then post that shit tweet above?
Don’t start making this a shit thread for your shit rantings like you do over the rest of the site.
Kane!! Give or take 6 goals he was shit!
Actually, that's true.
England's shots per goal stat must be phenomenal.
what is funny about it? where is the humour?
I wouldn't have seen this thread and certainly not posted on it if I wasn't tagged then saw you sad poll option so you made it a shit (and callout thread) from the opening post
Is the stat in the tweet false??
I don't "rant over the rest of the site", just posted some things on a couple of threads people didn't like and they're still carrying it on
And yet still second highest-scoring team in the tournament. Think that just means we're clinical, no? No good having lots of shots if they don't go in. Clearly didn't do Brazil much good...
