Who was your biggest culinary influence?

i think this is really interesting, thanks everyone:)
families are so important in this arent they, im sure thats to do with a nurturing/nourishing factor its certainly what made me more intersted in food, it just grew from wanting to feed my own family as best i could.

My mum was a young executive's wife in the 70's where dinner parties were de rigueur :D
as such until we were old enough to be useful and clean the dishes, she wouldn't let us near anything - that and the fact that my sis was proper clumsy as a child. Mum was and still is a top cook and has weird and wonderful recipes that I love to look at when I get the chance (not often enough as she's in QLD, aust) and every now and then I still ring her up just to get her pumpkin scone recipe cos I can never remember the measures :o and its my fave comfort food.
So yes even after reading that back, I guess it is my mum that originally inspired me, and I quite like following recipes these days where I used to be just-chuck-everything-in-a-pot-and-hope-for-the-best type cook.
suppose it comes with age, or having children (not that I have any of those) so it must be the age... i quite enjoy gardening these days too
:D

My wife, she's an absolute genius in the kitchen, she's inherited the gift her mum and nan had. My best meals have been cooked by her, definitely, and I can cook a decent spread cos of her.

Growing up it was red sauce brown sauce salt and pepper, I hated the very bland food my mum served up.

I love it now tho', when I go back to visit it reminds me of the simplicity of it, and I love it.

But my wife nis numero uno when it comes to my now held influences. Although I did introduce her to Tarragon beans
