The 8th army had a lot of 'problems' with fraternisation in the desert, with troops out on patrol and on water runs getting friendly with the opposition

I've heard it described as 'war without malice' before (might be a title of a book) - basically two sides, fighting miles from home in a place neither of them was emotionally attached too. Both sides pretty much observe rules of war.

Eisenhower was basically a politician - I had read of criticism of him for trying to slow down armoured thrusts that followed the break out from the Normandy beach-head. Other generals argued for the use of Blitzkrieg against Germany - but he was committed to a more orderly wide front advancing forward. He was described as a 'First World War general' too.

Guderian's brilliance has led some to suggest that he was a 'good German' - but apparently despite his falling out with Hitler, he was an ardent Nazi.

Didn't Zhukov get reprieved from purging and sent back to the front, as he was on his knees waiting to be shot? even had his teeth smashed out after being whipped by the executioners pistol.

Probably Guderian for me - though Liddell-Hart laid the basis for it, and the co-ordinated assaults did actually start happening at the end of WWI. Everyone seemed to forget them, just remembering the trauma of the trenches, and not the last 6-9 months of open warfare in 1918.

The overgrown 11 year old boys who infest this forum have had threads for cars, for planes, for weird planes and planes that never were, but they've not yet had a thread for tanks. So here, to start you off, is a British Mark IV tank, circa 1918.
