...cos I am involved in running a Brazilian drumming workshop on Sidney Road (between Brixton & Stockwell)...

We cater for all skill levels - from novice to expert - and specialise in the following NE Brasilian styles:

Tuesdays: Samba-reggae & Afro-bloc - funkier than funk!
Thursdays: Maracatu & Afoxé - deep folkloric drumming

Drums: 6:30-8:30 / Dance 8:30-10:00
All classes £5

All instruments are provided, though you are welcome to bring your own if you have them.

Just the thing to shake off the oncoming winter blues!

These are the workshops for the bands Maracatu Estrela do Norte and Bloco Ére, who both performed this year at Glastonbury and Notting Hill Carnival. Join us now for a chance participate in these - and other - gigs and festivals next year (well, maybe not Glasto as that's taking a year off, but you know what I mean!).

Contact me at [email protected], check our website at http://www.maracatu.co.uk/ , or just ask me a question in this forum to find out more!

Also: We play each Saturday outside the Ritz cinema between 11-12am, so if you want to hear what it sounds like, just pop along!

Come along and learn about the rich cultural mix of African, Indigenous and European influences of this music - as well as stick control, timing, drum language and lots of fun!
