Who wants a free jar of Peanut Butter?

It does only seem to be the biggest Sainsburys.
Have you actually seen them in Sainsburys? Because they used to stock it in a large branch near me (which still shows up on that store locator), and have now stopped. I suspect you can't buy it in any Sainsuburys.

Oh dear, no I haven't. Just used the store locator. I was going to nip over and buy some next week while I was at B&Q. I guess I might be out of luck, though these thing do vary from store to store. I'll check it out anyway.

Does it have to be the one in the first post or can it be the other crunchy one they do?

I haven't tried the crunch time one, so I don't know what it's like. It has palm oil and syrup in, but doesn't need stirring according to the website.

Thanks Maggot - looks weird!! Well runny.
I will be having a go at it next week after me hols and writing you a review. :)

Thanks Mrs M!

To the other winners: please be honest in your reviews and don't just say nice things about it just cos it was free.

ah, google tells me something about peanuts being a legume and people having sensitivity to them and also some sort of high mold content.

I remember now that some uncooked "peanut butter balls" concoction was one of two things in my life that ever made me sick (other than illness or alcohol)

Oh well I still like it :hmm::D

Finally got round to trying this. It tastes really very nice - full flavoured and not too sweet/salty. Nice texture, too - lovely big pieces of peanut, compared to most crunchy peanut butter, and no bitter skin.

But OMG, it was a massive faff to get to the point of eating though - separation like I've never seen before! Because the jar was filled almost to the top, stirring it in the jar was messy, as it kept spilling over the top, so I had to decant it into a bowl to stir properly, then gloop it back into the jar. Best eat it quickly before it has chance to separate again ;)

Overall, if I saw it in the supermarket, I'd probably buy it for the taste. Thanks Maggot :)

I agree with all of that. There is another version which has palm oil in to stop the separation. I might sacrifice my principles and go for that.

I've been really enjoying this, thanks so much Maggot :)

Echoing what others say, it's def more authentically 'peanut' than some of the others I've been eating (Skippy is really sweet for example) and it's a really refreshing change not to have it adulterated too much. Also enjoying the fact that it is *really* chunky!

I haven't cooked with it yet but am planning on a satay type dish sometime soon and reckon this will be a far better base.

I don't think it would ever replace the jar of Skippy or Sun-pat but I think it will very peacefully co-exist. Thanks again!

Thanks for all the reviews. It seems people like it, but aren't as crazy about it as I am.

Here's iona's which she posted on the other thread:

I tried that Peanut Butter & Co stuff that Maggot sent me.

To start with, it looked fucking wierd - I'm used to peanut butter separating but you usually get proper oil on top and this was like milky watered down smooth pb. It was a pain in the arse stirring it in too coz the bottom was really solid and the runny top bit kept spilling everywhere. The chunks were a nice size and there were plenty of them, and it was easy to spread although I would've preferred it to be slightly thicker. I'm used to no added salt pb so I was expecting this to taste really salty in comparison but it wasn't that noticeable - maybe because there was no added sugar they didn't have to add so much to balance against it? It made it nice on it's own but spread on sweet stuff it needed more to not be tasteless. Apart from the chunks there were almost none of the little bits of peanut skin you get in other brands so it felt more like eating the cheap supermarket stuff (not a bad thing, it made it more like a treat without actually eating all the palm oil and sugar). I wouldn't go to the effort of ordering any online, but I'd buy it again if I saw it in the shops and it wasn't loads more expensive than other stuff.
