The punk explosion was heralded by the Sex Pistols. There were many precedents - from Gene Vincent through Ramones, but there was a uniqueness and a new movement sprung forth that was, well, new.
Weller was a major Townshend disciple as well - everything from the mod influences to the Rickenbacker. :cool:

And in those days, being influenced by someone didn't mean directly ripping them off or even passing their tracks off as your own, as it seems to now... :rolleyes:
