Who Should Play Drums For Led Zeppelin

Is it only me who thinks that this whole reunion thing is a bad idea anyway? Led Zep were legends in their time: now, they're going to be a pale shadow of their former selves, especially without Bonzo. I think they should let sleeping dogs lie.

Aye but wouldn't you just love to see them live? Old cunts or not?

to be fair, it's not the first time they've done it. there was that whole Page & Plant thing a while back

Err.. well this is what Robert Plant was saying himself afew months ago..

Anyway.. Plant hasn't lost it.

If there ever was a weak link, for me, Plant was it. I imagine he's probably got a bit less irritating as he's got more leathery.

I'd like to see Todd Trainer have a go, maybe Dave Grohl, Phil Collins could do the drum parts in his sleep and probably has more in common with the other 60+'ers in the band

maybe what this needs is a reality tv show, with Kate Thornton in it.

will she be dying or inflicting death with her annoyingness?
The highlight of the show is when the winner gets to re-enact the fabled shark story, with Kate in the lead role

over and over again until she stops

Grohl was the first one that sprang to my mind too, although haven't heard the guy from Shellac

I reckon Davey would come BUCKETS if he got the job an all

I would pay big fucking money to see that too. Not the cum-bucket thing, the band playing thing

Also as far as I know, Bonham was basically the influence that got Grohl playing drums in the first place. His style is innately modelled on it.

I agree, though, wife permitting I would probably fly back from China to go to a gig featuring Page-Plant-Grohl +bassist

Yeh, I've read that in interviews with Mr Grohl

That'd be something else, wouldn't it?

well i'd like to see someone on the sticks who has his own unique style that would also meld well with the zeppelin sound.....

Mark Riley suggested Ringo Starr.. I think that would be

really?

Is he actually much of a drummer?

From what I have heard of the beatles, the answer = No.

Isn't Bonham Jr. in the running?

apparently there might be some Page & Plant shows playing Led Zeppelin stuff to promote their 'new' (ahem) compilation, or so says Pie Eye who heard it on the radio. No idea if Jones is involved.

But who should play drums?

gotta be Todd Trainer from Shellac. Albini has worked with Page & Plant too, so it could happen

Mike Portnoy.

He's certainly got the technique and abiliity, and he's already got a Zep tribute band as a side project. And he was an alcoholic, so he knows about excess.

John Stanier (helmet, tomahawk and battles) would be good.
or maybe Samantha Maloney

might end up being Michael Lee. think he was the drummer for page & plant.

I heard Bonzo junior was going to do it? Hope they do the O2 arena, I might get a heads-up.

My fav Led Zep is Kashmir, does anyone know if there's a name for the meter that's in?

Bill Ward from Black Sabbath's still alive. OK, he's getting on a bit, but it's only Led Zeppelin, so he'd be playing well within his abilities.

I reckon get jason bould from pitchshifter to do it and let him triple the speed of all the fills. would be awesome the man is a drumming machine by far the best drummer i have ever seen.

Mat sorum(guns n rsoes/velvet revolver) would be a decent choice i reckon. Or as people have said dave grohl is fairly obvious or travis barker to be down with the kids.
