The only problem I have with Capello is that he has the same first name as a trouble-maker from my secondary school days. But as the latter was born after, that's not Capello's fault.
I always favoured Capello because out of all the people who may have been suitably qualified for the job, he is the only one who really wants it. That will make a huge difference and will also be a kick up the backside for the slags-and-girlfriend-living players who seem more interested in what they'll look like in the pages of "Hello!" magazine rather than comments on their performances in FourFourTwo.
I'm chuffed to bits it's going to be Capello - he was always the one I wanted. I don't care if England aren't great to watch under him - but hey, when was the last time England were a great footballing side?! - so long as they play like a proper team and win, and they will do with him. And I'm sure the players he picks in his squads will learn a lot from him, which will be good for their clubs. But even if the team aren't entertaining, I'm sure that watching Capello on the sideline will be!
If you play becks properly there is no better right footed crosser of the ball in the game and there hasn't been in modern history. That guy is the best crosser of the ball from the right wing. Period. Some of his crosses cannot be defended.
Don't play him trying to get more than that, its potent enough to reduce high quality teams to tears.
If Capello is appointed, I think it will prove to be a coup by the FA. He is the polar opposite of Sven's wet Swedish herring approach and MacLaren's rank incompetence .... the self-obsessed egos in the England dressing room need someone who is not going to refrain from dropping big names if they're not doing the job.
Everyone's bleating on 606, predictably enough, about the fact that he isn't English. I suppose that ideally I'd like to have an English manager of England, but sadly, there is no-one who is even close to being a reasonable candidate. Redknapp and Curbishley are good club managers but lack the experience of handling big-name players which is so sorely required. Southgate is a long way from being a finished article as a manager even if he ever will be. Paul Ince even suggested Glenn Hoddle!
The language issue will, I am sure, be resolved over time. He can speak halting English apparently; he just isn't happy conducting press conferences in the language which given the vulture-like behaviour of our press, may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
We may not win the world cup with Capello, but I do believe that he will build a team which will maximise its potential, which is all we can ask for.
