How about Robert Smith? he is an ace guitarist IMO. I'm sure Early Cure was influenced by Magazine- some of the guitar on Real life reminds me of early Cure.

Either Myself or Marco Pirroni, Will Sergant or Jamie West Oram (not a trendy music journalists choice him, but he was doing all the clean funky anti guitar hero stuff long before Johnny Marr, but is strangely ignored by the OMM reading plebs).

Well, he and McGeoch did play the same riff equally well, so he wouldn't be too bad a choice.

Me, I'd go with either Dickie Hammond (as a "left-field" choice), or Marco Pirroni.

tomorrow night in manchester, there were still tickets left on saturday, and someone i know only managed to flog his spare for £8 (!!!) on the night.

Well worth it, a superb gig.
