Exasperated, not angry.
As Scunthorpe's only gift to the world reforms the greatest of the post-punk bands, one small problem stands out- how do you replace the genius that was John McGeoch? One of the essential sounds of the band, almost inimitable with his arpeggios and flanges, you have to pity the poor bugger who has to try to replicate his magnificence.
Devoto himself says he doesn't know who the new bod will be, although he 'has one or two names in mind' so this is your chance to try and convince him of the genius of your choice. Howard is, obviously, going to follow this thread closely, and will, undoubtedly, bow to popular opinion.
So, what are the options?
Tom Verlaine - Magazine were always (kinda) the English Television, so who better to replace JM than the genius of TV? A near perfect fit/
Johnny Greenwood - long stated that JM & Magazine were major influences, inspiring There There amongst others.
Johnny Marr - likewise he and The Smiths were similarly influenced, and he likes to join up with other bands rather than writing anything new himself.
Dave Navarro - learned to play guitar by listening to the Mags
Stuart Adamson - well, McGeoch replaced him for a while in The Skids, so it be fitting for him to return the favour. Lets hope he doesn't, as he would smell quite bad - obviously
Someone else entirely - odds on favourite at the moment
