Who replaces Sven?

Stuart Pearce gets my vote.

hands off...anyway he needs to get some Euro experience with City

I'd like to see Allardyce get it...would be good to see Gerrard and Beckham brought down to earth or maybe the bench

Also some pundit in one of the pazpers was suggesting Martin O'Neill but I think that was tongue-in-cheek in regard to the stroll in Windsor Park

He picks the side, but I don't think there are many better English players he could choose.

Most of the best players in the Premiership are foreigners - there are only four or five English players that I rate.

You don't need the best players . You can have a fucking good team with players that work well together in a formation . Thats how greece managed to win the Euro Championships !

That will be a big relief in the England dressing room.

Hey - lets get David James back!

I reckon you need the best goalkeeper though . Shame all the best goalkeepers aren't english :(

England's next manager

IMHO, what’s needed is a world-class coach, rather than a traditional “manager”. The person running the national team doesn’t need to have all the attributes of a club manager – he will not be buying and selling players, negotiating new contracts with agents, dealing with a board of directors etc.

Neither do they need to be “passionate” in the sense that is often implied when people say the England manager needs to be “more passionate”. Kevin Keegan was “passionate” about both his international and club management career, but sill managed to win fuck all. Tactical awareness is far more important, as is an ability to stand up to players who think they should be picking the team.

The England manager needs to care about the job, sure, but they shouldn’t be someone who rants and raves, or jumps up and down like a demented ape on the touchline. That is not the sign of a good manager. An ability to analyse what’s going wrong, and devise a strategy to put it right in a calm and professional way is.

Narrowing the field down by stating, as some commentators have, that Sven’s successor should be English is plain daft. It should be the best man for the job. If I had to pick one person, it would be either Arsene Wenger or Jose Mourinho, even though I hate them both.

Happie Chappie
:) :)

Alan Curbishley will be immediately ruled out under the mediocre and dull category.

He's never managed in Europe, has never managed a big star, so therefore cannot be considered.

Sir Bobby Robson will get the job, probably as caretaker until the end of the domestic season, when the FA will look at the options. The pathetic patriotic callings of the gutter press will no doubt lead to some mediocre manager chosen on the merits of Englishness ahead of a great coach

If I was Barwick, I'd sod them all and break the bank for Gus Hiddink. Proven at all levels and never heard a word against him.

Sam Allardyce.
He's good tactically - can often trouble better sides through changing the way they play. Usually overachieves.
He's good at assembling squads of disparate players with questionable motivation (cf. getting Djorkaeff, Okocha and Diouf to play for him)
He's got that other bullying streak for when things go tits up.
He can organise!

Downside
He could turn out to be another Graham Taylor, and we could look very silly.

allardyce in my opinion plays a system to match his players i think he would do ok as england manager an actually drop a few of the non performers an move us forward , could you see the second half performances we have put in against brazil an porutgal with him in chance ? ? keegan had the ability to motivate but not a clue on tactics sven no's a bit about tactics but has no motivational skills in him big sam has a bit of both

One man is not enough for the job..........

I suggest a panel of black cab drivers and pub landlords ;)

Wenger?

Arsenal look to be going nowhere, hes getting on a bit and might fancy one last great challenge ...

then again he may not want to touch the job with a bargepole.

No English managers have the necessary experience.

Allardyce , nice fella but one tactic -the long ball. Anyone watch the tactical genius at work in the Bolton versus Blackburn game?

Pearce will stay at City because he knows that he is too inexperienced. Claudio Raneiri is the man for the job, he 'd pursuade Cuducini to take English citzenship and he would have a great relationship with the Chelsea players in the squad.

one defeat and you are all up in arms demanding he be replaced...
sad!.
player power rules england, just like at madrid, where the players tell the board who to buy and where to play them.

b.b apart, everyone on this thread is a Sun reader. Not lost a competitive match for ages. Has a bit of a bad patch right at the start of the season where everyone is starting to find their form and get fit.

Sacked.

Insane, if you can see that, stop watching football.

Who would you have to replace Sven, then?

After N.I's win over England, the head of the I.F.A. was asked what he would do if the English F.A. came calling for Lawrie Sanchez, he replied; "everyone has their price".

:D

Pfft, Sven is tactically inept and when it COUNTS (Brazil, Portgual) he has been SERIOUSLY lacking.

His current team selection is beyond belief, his subs make no sense and he's a joke

Anyone BUT Big Fat Sam Allardyce.

The football we'd play would hark back to the Graham Taylor era. Have you guys ever seen Bolton play? It is 11 men behind the ball, the constant long ball up to two big strikers, pack the midfield with beefy types, and hard tackling.

The football played would be atrocious.

I'd love to see an Brazillian or Spaniard managing England.

Svens worse than souness and thats saying someting, his useless

when they use to take the piss out of him, on Dead ringers i thoght it was

funny, but i never in my wildest freams think it could be true.

I like the style of play that Spanish sides employ - especially in midfield where they have mainly flair players on the wings, a defensive midfielder and a skillful attacking midfielder, rather than four box-to-box midfielders, two of which can cross. The whole nature of England International football is playing through the middle. We need a change from that.

Stuart Pearce = instant pride.

Gets my vote, even with fuck all experience. The players at this level know how to play. There are coaches to fine tune the tactics. The England manager picks the players and the system, and motivates the players. Pyscho'd do a fine job.

And if not now, then he's definately one for the future.

I'd go for Martin O'Neill.Ok so he's not English but British is close enough.Make Stuart Pearce assistant. He's got the perfect credentials but needs experience.
Get rid of that ruddy faced Alex Ferguson clone,McClaren,as assistant.Cant stand his smug smirk and mealy mouthed interviews. He's done F all for Middlesborough.Buy a few, sell a few,win a few, lose a few.Any clown that has the backing of a chairman with deep pockets can do that.(except Souness)

Righty Ho, I for would like to see you go for Berti Vogts, if you think your teams in trouble now a few games wi Bertie would have you hollerin for Sven back! You need someone who gets the players playing for that badge on the shirt and the fans on the terraces, Much as disliked Walter Smith when he was manager of the Hordes of Darkness at Ibrox, I can only be impressed by the passion and commitment that the Scottish players have shown since he took over. TBH you need an English manager for the English side. ( And anyway Martin O'neills passport might say British but his Heart is Irish ).

No they were better than us and thats what showed. If the opposition is way better and on those days they were, you can play any tactic you like, your still gonna get a whipping.
