aphex twin, aparently.

no it's not quite at the end, i'm pretty sure it's seefeel cos after it there's a dirty acid track

IIRCC, that Spiritualized mix of LFO is (-relatively) long/slow/ambient, followed by the usually more full-on Aphex.

I've just gone and done that too :)

I had to remember what buttons to press on the tape player. I can't remember the last time I played a tape :D

It is the one with that long sample from the film Darkstar isn't it? I love that bit.

Fucking great mix.

always thought it a shame that for that tape they didn't get DJs winston hazel / parrot to mix it. they were probably the very first innovative techno Djs in the UK. i remember seeing them in about 1986 or 87 and they were playing all the original detroit stuff alongside other funk and electro stuff etc. they invented that whole sheffield 'clonk sound' (sweet exorcist/LFO et al) too. respec.

I had to wire up the tape player to the amp! :D

I've just rummaged through a big black bag of a few hundred tapes. I know it's still used by some noise/drone/industrial types, but the tape format seems so antiquated and quite alien to me now.

Hadnt heard this before - enjoying it a lot- but aprticularly excited to hear the opener, which reminded me of a mission I was on to find this track.

The opening track was a favourite of mine, and I rememebr Fabio playing it when him and Groove were still on Kiss, and down at Speed. He played the version thats played on this mix - but when the track was released I ran to the shops amd bought it, but it had been tampered with, and released under a slightly different name.

This is the version I bought:

The comment in discogs says:
Track A is a re-worked version of Link's "Amazon Amenity (Chameleon Remix)" that originally appeared on the "Theory of Evolution" compilation.

So it sounds like it never got a release, other than on this comp

I didnt have the internet back in 95, and after much searching for the original gave up (in part thrown off by the name change). Thanks to this thread Ive been reminded of it, and can now get the original and finally rest in peace!

THanks...

aceness. just listened to this all the way through, and it rocks as hard as i remember. the lovely detroity section partway through the second side is just beautiful.

and yeah, it is seefeel - it's on the second 'artificial intelligence' compilation too...

I wish more hip hop/turntablist DJ's would mix that sort of material.

Early House/Techno/Electro etc

"That's all beside the point! I mean, the concept is valid no matter where it originates!"
"Hmm..."
"So if you detonate in..."
"Nine seconds."
"...you could be doing so on the basis of false data!"
"I have no proof it was false data."
"You have no proof it was correct data!!!!"
"...I must think on this further."

Classic.

This tape was what first got me aware of Warp, now I think back. I was moving out of living by the NME, and had started buying dance music mags, but I didn't have much of a clue in general. I listened to that and thought "everything on this is brilliant, I want more of it".

God, reading that gave me tingles.

Listening now. I'd almost forgotten how good Warp Records used to be!
Back in the days before Jimi Tenor got shit...
:nostalgia face:
