Death and time are the two most powerful beings in the world! birth is just a brief experience and life a fleeting dream.

Hu Jintao definitely. The size of China's army is frightening and China has more clever people than America and Europe have people. Couple that with nukes and the supplier of the world's goods make for a very powerful mix.

Even if he isn't the most powerful man now he will be by mid century, well the person who succeeds him.

Hu Jintao hasn't got the full backing of the Politburo, I don't think he's the most powerful man in the world and I doubt he's going to be even the most powerful man in China for much longer.

If China stays united and purposeful into mid-century then the leader of China will be the world's most powerful person but I reckon that's a big if: the CCP's grip on power may loosen and then China will descend back into the internal strife and inward-looking attitude that's caused it to punch below its weight internationally for the last few centuries.

i have actually met the most powerful person in the world, as it happens, in a shed in allotments "somewhere in the south east of england". for someone who wields immense power over the movements of nations he was quite unassuming, on the outside at least. he definitely had an aura of power about him that i could sense on occasion, though, especially when he was talking about his onions.

Mikhail Kalashnikov

His designs keep on giving.

I am the most powerful person in the world

I am obama, obama is me.
You are obama, obama is you.
You are me.
I am you.

Each of us can make a post such as this and it would make sense.

I voted the pope because his followers don't question what he tells them, they just do it.

I'm sure there are more Chinese than Catholics, and the glorious president of the PRC has more power/influence over its citizens that the head of the Church of Rome does over its followers, by virtue of being the head of the communist party

According to the rare experience i had on Wednesday, of meeting a drunk Geordie in London, the answer to the original question is Alan Shearer.

Wikipedia reckons there's about 1,300,000,000 people in China, and about 1,100,000,000 catholics in the world. But who should win?

China prezzer has some diplomats in other countries and representation in the UN etc.

But the Pope has many more representatives keeping an eye on the people. And they seem to get a say in politics of the countries in which they operate.
