You've got yer likes of yer Big Show and yer Undertakers, but when it comes down to it, yer man Norris wins hands down every time. Aint that right chuck.

He's extremely right, as Dot Communist recently learnt, heartbreakingly.

Bill gates.

All he has to do is insert a disc containing his special 'destroy all computers which use windows or a variant thereof' and he could bring the entire world to its knees.

*serious answer alert*

went to an interesting talk yesterday, some American academic on international relations, and he basically answered this Putin. His argument was that of the various leaders/heads of state - even though he no longer is - he has less institutional constraints (less than China where they are there, though a bit opaque). Basically what he says goes in Russia.

Russia only has a population of about 140 million though. Less than Nigeria for example and less than China or India nearly by a factor of ten.

'Power' by your definition is a 2-dimensional quality. It concerns both influence and range. So a parent has absolute power over a small child, simply by overwhelming threat of force etc. Michael Jackson influences billions but only in their music tastes.

Poll fails as it is one dimensional.

خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز آل سعود‎ as head of Saudi Arabia, which is the 1 country in OPEC blocking the move away from trading oil in dollars. ie the man keeping US as the hyper power.

No, you're meant to say

"The President of China! I just said, didn't I?"

LOL LOL LOL.

His name genuinely is Hu Jintao - he's on the list.

Just about to do this gag and realised you'd already spiked it. If I wasn't sat in my front room 'working' from home, you'd have ruined my day:mad:

Any of these only keep power if they act in a certain way, there are always rivals ready to supplant if they offend their powerbase. So only teuchter really has the freedom to exert power not be a figurehead. ;)

I still vote for the pope, tho, a billion catholics and hearing directly from god is a great excuse to go bonkers:D

Just use this handy formula to obtain a one-dimensional value:

Power = influence x range.

I am pleased to note that the poll currently confirms me as the most powerful person in the world, according to anarchist website urban75.

Kim Jong Il is a contender, about 20 mil cowed peasants worshipping him, and enough weapons to make china and the us nervous

Can I be all srs for a minute and say that it is impossible for us to really tell from our parochial local context who really has influence in the wider world? Murdoch, for instance, seems to be all over the West like a rash, but is he really that influential to the half of the world that live in China, India and so on?
He has alot of media in India (Star TV I think) and some in parts of China like Hong Kong.

And keeping his throne by doing so.

<edited out because of an extreamly weird synchronicity with Dotcomunist>

This chap's managed to keep his name out of the poll, again :hmm:

Hu Jintao definitely. The size of China's army is frightening and China has more clever people than America and Europe have people. Couple that with nukes and the supplier of the world's goods make for a very powerful mix.

Even if he isn't the most powerful man now he will be by mid century, well the person who succeeds him.
