Who here appreciates Mozart?

Mozart is supposed to be the best thing to get rambunctious young boys to behave and concentrate in the classroom but I have my doubts.

For a while they were saying that it improved kids' exam results if they listened to it beforehand (or something) but this has since been debunked and it turns out that they perform better if they listen to music they like, regardless of what it is.

Are they still using Mozart and the like to keep kids from congregating outside the COOP and places like that ?

It would work for me too.

I played french horn for years, so I've played most of his horn concertos. Will always have a soft spot for them :)

I saw the opera Cosi Fan Tutte recently and enjoyed it but I'm not a great fan of Mozart. I prefer Rimsky-Korsakov and Liszt.

Mozart is more fun to play than to listen to, in my opinion. I still love him though. But I prefer the Romantics (particularly the Russians) and late 19th/early 20th century French sound poets. Give me Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Debussy, Mussorgsky, Dvorak or Borodin over Mozart any day.

I love the Requiem (though the latter part isn't entirely by him), the bassoon concerto and his operas. His vespers and some of his lesser-known concert arias are great too. I don't know quite what it is about Mozart, but he definitely refreshes the parts that not many other composers can reach. Or something.
