Who has impressed you so far? and who hasn't

Croatia will be very hard to beat

they couldn't score with a bag of dicks tho - that brazilian defence was shite and they seem to be relying on dado poorshow to turn provider

What? I realise it's a glib statement, and that wonder goals count just as much, I just meant that their attack is going to have to make up for their dodgy defence and against better teams this won't be easy.

its a dumb-hole statement is what it is "if team X hadn't scored those 2 goals they would have got beat" is perhaps the dumbholest statement there is....

i wish i'd sided with donna now

:D

I can see your point.. perhaps I should have said: "a 4-2 win isn't that impressive when you consider the opposition, and the nature of a couple of their goals"

good: rosicky, riquelme, cahill, frings,

bad: owen, ronaldo x2

teams that start slowly go onto win these tournaments, so my sweepstake france stil have a chance.

well i am not gonna say anything! :o

(as i also haven't seen many games really, oops)

Q to chris filter? how many wonderful/deep-nature-goals did other teams score btw? a goal is a goal. even an own goal counts as well. :p

I know, I already said that. They were amazing goals.

good, argentina, despite the scare against ivory coast, who are a good side, italy were impressive, i thought they might struggle with all the shit going on their league, the czechs were excellent, but i get the feeling their heads will drop if things go against them.

brazil were disappointing against croatia, one wonder goal was the difference, they won't get a wonder goal every match, ronaldo looks like he just can't be arsed...

england need to step it up, if they struggle agaisnt paraguay, they'll not going to make it beyond the quarter finals unless they improve. I think they might get a hatful against the trinidad and tobago team, a lof of whom play for british clubs, it should be more like a fa cup match....

Argentina (as predicted), Czechs (though I didn`t see the whole game) and Mexico - i though we (mx) looked v good on the break, some excellent balls out wide, just lacking a cutting edge in the box.

Cote d'Ivoire looked okay, Australia impressed too.

Looking at the "star" attackers in their first games, only Riquelme and to a certain extent Kaka really lived up to the hype. All of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Gerrard, Lampard, Henry, Shevchenko, Ibrahimovic, etc were rather forgettable, and Ballack and Rooney were injured. Will they come into their own later on, or is this a precident?

Argentina and the Czech Republic have looked the best thus far but I think the former may rely on Riquelme and the latter Nedved and Rosicky a little too much if a decent team can neutralise them.

impressed:
argentina (my tip is looking good  ) italy, and czech republic

disapointed:
england and brazil (hope not to add spain to that list, but hey ho....)

so-so:
netherlands, ivory coast, equador (my sweepstake team, come on!!) and germany

never thoguht they'd be any good anyway:
france

I second that list :)

argies most impressive

france, germany and italy WONt win it..id bet my life on it..

its between argies, brazil spain and england..czech's will be the suprise team.....i see brazil beating argies in the final and england playing crechs for 3rd place

Spain looked very good last night, I thought. Arguably the best team so far. When you consider Ukraine topped a very tough qualifying section (Turkey, Greece, Denmark) that England might have struggled in, and were tipped as a possible dark horse by some, for Spain to demolish them so comprehensively was very impressive IMO. So, can Spain continue that, or will they find a way to stuff it up as usual? They should spank saudi arabia anyway.

come on spain!!!!!!

well if england fuck up, i'd love the spanish to win it, and they did look on top form today, but they have a history of fucking up:(

First off, do accept a great big thank you from this Argie to those who raise their hats to Argentina! :)

We have to work on our formation for the next matches. As it is, it's just too predictable. I hope Messi is fit and Pekerman will start him and Tevez soon.

So far, the strongest team for me is Czech Republic (even though playing against USA is like taking candies from babies :D )

The most entertaining teams: Mexico, South Korea, Italy, Ecuador.

The team with a lot of heart: T&T

Tragic figure of WC2006: Poland.

Mmmmm, a Spanish side that actually lives up to its billing for once. They're gonna go far.

Their record is littered with the odd fine outing; though this is their best ever start to a World Cup, I shall remain dubious for now.

Those who have impressed:

- Didn't see the Spanish victory yesterday but any team that beats Ukraine 4-0 must be a bit handy. Aragones may be a racist bell-end, but he has done the right thing by going against public opinion and leaving Raul out of the team. Maybe this could be their year.

- The Czech Republic in beating the USA, particular Rosicky who appears to be a quality player.

- The Germans have a leaky defence but look more dangerous going forward than most. They could yet figure in the final stages.

Those who haven't:

- France. A tournament too far for Zidane, Vieira et al?

- USA. Fifth in the world? <<snorts>>

Jury out:

- England. A comfortable victory is needed tonight against Trinidad and Tobago to allay my concerns about the poor second-half performance against Paraguay.

- Brazil. The question here is whether Perreira will have the courage to do as Aragones did and drop the "star" striker if he continues to underperform. With Ronaldo in the team and doing fuck all, they might struggle for goals. By the way, he's had treatment for a hangover .... :D

Maybe we expect too much of Brazil.

Me too - I want to see how we handle Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, who look fast and skillful compared to Ukraine. I just hope the Villa-Torres partnership remains as it worked a treat yesterday  :D

Yeah, aside from their ability, surely no cooler pairing in the comp

Thanks for doing that interview thingy by the way Mr force, it was a good read n'all.

It would be classic Spain to whack Ukraine and then fuck up against Saudi Arabia and Tunisia...I remember France 98, where they only got going, with a 6-1 victory over Bularia (the biggest of the cup IIRC) when it was too late (and got knocked out because Nigeria rested all their best players against Paraguay, allowing the Paraguayans to win 3-1 and go through in Spain's place, prompting me to wonder whether the French had passed some big bucks Nigeria's way to stop them having to play spain in the next round)

I think part of that failure was the manager and also some of the players being past their prime. Rightynow, Spain's senior players are in the form of their life - Puyol, Casillas, Xabi Alonso.

Plus the people we've got on the bench. Before we'd take off Luis Enrique or similar and repalce them with Guitterez or Ibanez...now there's Raul, Fabregas, Reyes, Salgado just sitting there.

We may mock, but he'd walk (wobble) right in to the England team at the minute.
